car i can picture it comming from is 1300GT.. but there were so few of these... I find it hard to think it was just a coincidence that 2 early GT's had the exact same gearknob that was taken from another car......but then again, u never know.. just wish i bloody well did! lol

Well i solved it all on my lonesome!

And well i have a big stash of GT shite in my room, but clever chris never though
to look at the pics did he?

For those of you playing at home go to your copy of Modern Moter (October 71) and turn to page 59... a piccy clear as day that shows my nob! So this goes to support the theory that the early ones must have been black! (it has the exact same narow top as mine did!)

YAY so the knob mystery is solved!

Well aren't you a knob!

'tis a black and white pic, but yes, it does look like the BLACK knob.

Another interesting fact unearthed.

Now when did they change to the brown knob?

Also note that pictured in that publication is a standard Clubman, wearing the same black knob that Mini K's had.

I dare say that when British Leyland changed to Leyland Australia, they changed knobs (and A panel badges, and steering wheel centres etc)

Re Gear Stick Knobs.

Just a bit of speculation!!
Some time in 72? the gearbox was changed from remote to rod change for other Minis except the GT.
Early Clubman cars with the remote gearbox most likely had the plain black knob as for previous Minis so maybe the GT had a black knob as well but with the GT logo on the top. When the rod change box came along the brown knob was used for other Minis and the GT got the same knob but with the GT logo on the top.
Well it MAY?? explain the black GT knob. If it doesn't it's the basis for a good rumour that could become folklore.

Never spoil a good story for the sake of the truth.
