Howdy folks!

Need to change the engine stabilizer (engine stay) bushes and saw these new hard polyurethane bushes on MiniSpares: http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=36634.

:?: Anyone got any idea if the'res any benefit to these hard bushes rather than flexible rubber ones? If not i'll just stay with the rubber.

I had red ones from some mini supplier. I don't know the brand sorry. They were great, held the engine in place and kept my carb from bouncing off the firewall.

BUT, the engine end ones (I have L+R bars) just disintegrated with the heat of the engine. They didn't melt out, just turned all powdery in the middle and fell out in a pink dust. I now have rubber bushes on the engine end of the bars and poly bushes on the firewall end.

Nolathane? Poly? bushes I think are too hard....they tend to transmit the shock into the mounting points and destroy them....I have heard you are better off with more rubbery bushes.

Thats enough to put me off the stuff :lol:
Stick to rubber... its cheap, its durable, its forgiving (more than this plastic rubbish), etc etc.


My (and suspension man's) thoughts anyway.

I found the same problem with the red Nolathane ones. Mine lasted 3 weeks before they split and got chucked.
They transmit more noise & vibration too.

The stuff cannot be compressed properly to make a `live' mount as the rubber can.
That's why generally in suspensions they are hardly compressed, and always have grease inside to lube them on the pin.

I'll stick to the proper rubber ones... 8)

My nolathane ones seem to be holding up, BUT...

This is seeming very true! :(

ditto - I bought the prtty blue ones - CRAP too hard on the firewall so changed back to spongey rubber black ones

Engine Stabilizers..yep I'm also going back to rubber also..Other places..I will try them...but thats a long way down on the list
