Shannon?s Mini Conquers the Mountain continues to gain momentum with 1966 Bathurst winner Bob Morris to be reunited with a replica of his race winning car giving people the chance to relive history at the famous circuit.
Muscle Car Events Todd Martin has confirmed they also would like to see current owners take up the challenge of replicating the other period racers that made Mini the famous model it is today. ?Not only are we looking for replica cars but certainly the deadline for all entries is drawing closer with all the owners of cars that contacted us earlier now having to make the decision to enter otherwise the entries will close? said Martin. ?We?ve got some great examples but would love to see more entry level models like 850 and DELUXE plus we will be relaxing the entry level to allow CLUBMAN LS and later model Rover examples to attend?. The Muscle Car Events event director also pointed out due to new restrictions in actual track time spots he believed all track time would be wrapped up by mid August.

Muscle Car Events believed many Mini owners were under the impression the event caters only for performance and sports variants which is incorrect, the event caters for all Mini?s with a view to their motorsport history inviting not only the Cooper models, but certainly daily drivers or concourse correct models with no problem on period accessories and some modifications. For example replica Coopers are allowed as long as that is stated on the Registration Form. ?We?ve had a few entries from current Group Nb and Nc racers that have fallen under this banner and as long as the owners understand that, they receive the ok? commented Martin.

***Synnic Alert***

Probably didn't have enough entries and had to relax the rules to boost the numbers

It makes you wonder about the organisers if they don't even know who won the 1966 race.

According to Bob Holden, he was the first driver allowed to put his full name on the front of his car, as it looked silly haveing "Holden" across the front of his Ford Escort.

Watto
