I used to be a bit slower at removing mini engines than my mates because I only did it once a year or so.

I therefore put the notion forward that because I built such outstanding mini engines (tongue firmly in cheek), therefore I couldn't have as much practice at removing engines as those who didn't.

Do we have the 3 week option?
Thats what i'm approaching with removing this stupid Matic motor

Goddamn hardie spicers
I've effectively given up until the trolls that hide at the back of my shed come out one night and start working on the Matic for me.

Out the top is easy........ but nothing beats having THIS amount of access

Very easy to undo universal joints like this.... and then the engine only needs to be lifted about 8 inches 8)

Time length? Lets just say: I dont like to rush stuff. No, really, I dont.

gees it looks like im in the wrong job.
I did have extractors and a GR manifold to undo along with radiator out and alternator and dizzy, starter motor as i really didnt want to scratch my car.
and it was still hot.
I did it in 33 mins from driving in and 2 peoiple watching not helping a single bit, more in the way than helping as i kept having to walk the length of my workshop to get my tools out (which i put away by mistake)
No easy outs either no nuts welded to engine mounts or 1 piece radiator cowlings or 1 bolt carb undos it was everysingle bolt.
But its good to know i recon i could have done it quicker say 25mins with tools in hand and i have the whole thing on video.
I used to know a guy from south africa who could take 3 motors out in an hour.but that was all he did and i really dont think cutting everything was the way to take them out.

the new motor is in and ready to be fired up today as i was really taking my time on that and was back in in an hour just got the last bit of the radiator to fit (have to change cowling as its cracked)

By the way my old race car had a removeable front and 13mins was the best i did on that but i must admit 4bolts and a water hose was real easy to undo, carb pipe and all came out on that one.

That reminds me about the mechanic and the heart surgeon talking. The mechanic said "Hmm, our jobs are pretty much the same - pipes, valves, pumps, connectors wires and so on"

The surgeon thought a while and said " Well, yes. I guess our jobs are the same. Me replacing a heart valve is a bit like you replacing a piston in an engine... with it going."

was at the wreckers today and when i walked in they were unloading a falcon from a tow truck, walked out of there in an hour and a half, no more than 2, and there it is the same car only guys were plulling it on a pallet jack, nothing was left, doors, interior, lights, fittings, and yes the engine and tranny,

made me wander how many blokes were behind those doors,
