This post is aimed at WA based users, or people who have lived over here.
I moved over to Perth this year with my mini which is currently registered in SA. To register in SA all I did was a transfer over from the previous owner, and the car was nowhere near roadworthy :D .
Are the rules really tight in WA regarding roadworthyness (if thats a word). Main things I'm concerned about when I transfer over are:
1275cc engine with front drums
bit of dodge bodywork.

Cheers

To register it over here you have to take it over the pits.

Is the current engine listed on your SA rego papers? Then the drum brakes with a 1275 should not be a worry unless your inspector happens to be a mini nut! Rust is a bit iffy - "structural rust" is a definate fail (subframes, mounting bolts, holes in floor pans).

Maybe Mick has his checklist from his failed inspection on Friday? :P

Yeah the engine number is listed on the papers, good ol' SA system is full of loop holes. There is no structural rust or holes in the floor pans, plus I just reconditioned both hubs. Is there anything else I need to worry about? All the obvious things like lights and seat belts are all ok. Would be good to get it all official and not have to worry about coppers asking questions about my SA plates. The current excuse is "I'm on a holiday in sunny Perth".

I would have thought you would have to swap to WA plates anyway. When I brought my car over, I had the owner deregister it in Queensland and then I just went through the usual process of pretty much getting a new vehicle on the road.

As long as your engine numbers match up, rust is either not present or not visible  and you have no major things wrong then you should be fine. Oil leaks were a big one.

Clean the engine bay & under the car, then do it again!
Make sure it's spotless.

The other major one is brakes:
- must pull up square
- cannot take off with handbrake on

and make sure you windscreen washer works, eh Mick

Oh yeah, wipers, need to get that done at some stage. I delebrately avoided getting the car swapped over to WA license because I knew it wouldn't pass, and I didn't want to waste a whole year of SA rego.
