Hi all.

Got my plates form the RTA last Friday, going up to OzCooper on Saturday to pick the car up - YAY!!!!!!!! AND HOORAY!!!!! AND ALL THAT!!!!!!

gf says that cos of all the money i've spent on it i'm not allowed any petrol money, so i reckon i'll just be sitting in the driveway playing with the buttons (not that there's all that many of course!) and winding the windows up and down.

I can barely believe that I've been in Oz almost 1 year and I haven' driven the damn thing since the 15th of September last year when I took it to the export agent in London.

Combination of me being lazy, holidays, delays in getting some new doors and the compliance plate, customs hold-ups and all that sort of stuff mean that it's been 9 months since the car arrived on Australian soil and 7 months since we got it out from customs.

I am all giddy with excitement that it's finally ready. Hope to persuade the gf to let me buy petrol and come on a mini run/meet with some of you Sydney guys sometime soon.

...Oh, and if you see a baldy Scotsman in a BRG 1990 Cooper with different-coloured doors around, give me a flash, wave or a toot and i'll respond in kind!! :)

doors are a bit scruffy but are at least they're the same colour (give or take some fading) which is much better than i had been expecting!

Spent today trying to find if it still had wiring for a stereo but could only find an immobiliser box instead!

Then cut/polished the roof, which really needed it.

Had a beer last night to celebrate the much delayed arrival, now need to find some fun country roads to play on next weekend.

I had ordered the doors by phone and asked for British Racing Green ones, and they said they'd get the best looking pair they could find to send to the garage.

When they arrived at the garage (I had not seen them at all until i picked the car up yesterday), I was speaking to them on the phone and I said I was happy that they had matching doors, and they said 'well sort of...' which had me worried that they were another shade of green completely.

I didn't ask for more info then as all that mattered was getting the thing legal and rego'd and on the road, so after expecting the worst lime green mis-matching doors, as it turns out, they were just commenting on the fact that they are of course a bit faded and on the driver's door there's been some serious buffing under the handle to the point of seeing primer coming through.

All in all though i'm bloody delighted with how close they are - they'll be fine until sometime next year when I can get them resprayed. Might try to get some stripes to make them less obviously different to the casual observer though.

I may be able to help with stripes if you can describe accurately and/or post a close-up pic. Am sure to have something at work which'll match fairly close. 8)

Thanks for the offer WEEVAN.

I hadn't checked back on this thread since Monday afternoon and i got itchy feet while web-surfing at work yesterday and went ahead and ordered a 10m roll of stripes and some 'John Cooper' signature decals for my bonnet from the UK.

Cheers for offering though
