The 'original' S brakes dont even come close to the type of braking ability I have with 9" discs  I want' to test them against some 8.4" Metro Turbo brakes though :D

I reckon the engineers wont like the amount ground of the caliper on the 7.9 conversion...

I think they are better under 12" wheels, then no mods to caliper or disc at all.

My City ones have a bit ground off, but it wasn't obvious. At least there's no fluid there, just metal.

Paint 'em, black or whatever floats your boat... 8)

Any clues as to what's happening here? When I pulled the calipers off the Civic at the wreckers one disc came off easy peasy with the puller. The other is still there

As I cranked the puller up it appeared as though the disc was staying stationary and the shaft was being pushed in toward the engine. It reach a point where it would go no more. A BFH didn't do any good. Should I just forget that one and look for another? I picked this set as they had the least wear.

This may sound silly but you did unscrew the 2 little screws that hold the disc on?

Also, I got the discs and calipers off a 82 prelude. Are these the same as on the civic? I know replacement discs are 231mm dia and 50mm wide. Any idea what thickness of caliper mouting plate is needed for these?(still 8mm)? I'll be using the 10" conversion.
cheers

guys,

mini spares center australia (mini car clinic) has a set of discs and calipers that will go on standard hubs (need 12" wheels because of size of calipers) (come with custom backing plate)

has anyone heard of these or even better seen any in action?

i'll find the price out today and get back to you

i have seen a pic of these, BUT i think you will still need an engineer to certify these as there is no mention as to an engineers certificate in the advertisment.......

does anyone know about disks off an '88 civic? - all the talk here is about slightly earlier ones. I am getting a set in a roundabout kinda way and wonder if they'll do me any good

what about off a swift GTI?

David, my Civic discs came off very easily. No drama's. As suggested, those 2 small screws have to come out. Then the disc should slide straignt off, with no encouragement froma BFH.

Screws?? What screws?? No seriously I'm sure I took the screws out - a couple of weeks back now - been otherwise occupied!! But I'll go back and check when the Doc (not Kev) says I'm allowed to.

I think this was the Camira based kit? If so, Jan's Mutant used to have a set of these before the Mutant makeover. John (Jan's husband) said they weren't much good and they made the front wheels stick out further than regular 8.4" Mini disks.

none of the numerous sets of brakes i have procured required any BFHing

i glanced over the brakes of a charade last time i was at pick and pay more, they looked pretty small..... thought about grabbing a set but i reckon i have enough honda ones to convert before i look elsewhere

Yeah kev, i reckon the 12 inch conversion is very engineer friendly, i suppose it depends on how thorough the engineer is, if i had to put my safety approval on them i certainly would like to know whats been taken of where, i reckon i would like to compare the caliper to an unmodified one.
