No, that comes from inferior 21st century schooling.

I remember petrol being in the lower 90c range, and the kick up from people when it went over a doller. they claimed people wouldn't be able to afford to run their cars then!!
then there was the $1.20 kick up....

well, that was all while I was in canberra.

Anyone ever heard of a mini being converted to LPG.

The federal government will give you 2000 to convert, and the WA government will give us a further 1000 !!

WIll it fit in the boot?

Well, the LPG tank will fit, don't know where you may fit the spare wheel though

How about this -

On my first big Moke trip, to Perth in January 1982, we paid 40.9c/lt in Melbourne. (yes I still have the log books from all my big trips) We were amazed at having to pay 55.6c/lt in the middle of the Nullarbor, but then it was the MIDDLE of the Nullarbor.

1986 - drove the Mokes to Cape York, Far North Queensland. Petrol in Melbourne was 53.9c/lt - that's a jump of more than 25% in 4 years, but inflation back then was around 8% per annum - so reasonable I guess. Petrol in Brisbane was 43.9c/lt - petrol has been 10c/lt cheaper in Qld as long as I can remember, because the Qld State Government has subsidised the fuel excise (or something). But in 1986 that was a difference of over 20% saving! Today, with Melbourne at (around) 143c/lt and Brissie at 133c/lt, that's a saving of only 7.5%! So who is making all the extra cash?

But get this - the petrol in 1986 at Archer River, nearly to the top of Cape York, was 69c/lt - or 57% dearer than Brisbane. That's equal to about $2.08/lt on today's prices. Can anyone tell me what the actual price is at Archer river today? It might make an interesting comparrison. Interstingly, Bamaga, right at the top of Cape York was cheaper, at 63c/lt, but that might be because it could be shipped in(?).

Petrol at Weipa - where the whole town is owned by Comalco - who subsidise virtually everything - was 56.2c/lt.

Petrol was around $1.00/lt early last year, and is today approaching $1.50/lt 18 months later. 50% increase in 18 months. The Government blames the Terrorists, the fuel companies blame the World Price of crude oil and the Opposition blames the Oil Companies.

I would love a solar-powered Moke/Mini that will cruise all day at 110 km/h and still caryr everything I need. In the meantime, I'm just glad I don't drive a Ford F250!

I had a VL V8 fitted for dual fuel. It was an unleaded engine but the LPG fuel destroyed two lots of two heads. Sustained freeway driving (Sydney-Canberra-Sydney) (Sydney-newcastle-Sydney) for work, at 110 km/h was said to be the reason.

Its a snow job by a government who are snatching at reasons as to why they are going to lose in the next election.

LPG is almost as expensive as petrol, you use more of it than petrol and the car can only be inspected for rego by a lpg certificated inspector. Although LPG does produce more power than petrol ultimately, the lack of a carby pump makes pick up quite dull.

LPG is just like oil. Sooner or later we will exhaust its supply, particularly when we are piping it to lots of Asian countries including China.

you said what i was going to, with all these new people using LPG, there will be supply problems which will drive the price up.

the government should be encouraging people to use biodiesel and the like in the short term, though then you cant hoon around in mums v6 commodore.

we've done something by buying a very small car with an extremely efficient 1.3l electronic fuel injected engine.

so there you have it, everyone start doing starlet and gti conversions to your minis, even daihatsu conversions!

The first time I bought petrol (drove mums car when she was away  )
pulled up with mates to find we only had 61cents between us
so that's what we got 1.32L at $0.46/L

back in the days when we had 1cent pieces...
