They look exactly the same as normal brake lights as I only changed the bulb to an LED bulb, the only difference is that they come on a fraction (but noticable) faster, and are brighter.

You can get PCB boards that go in MK1 tail light bases.
MiniMania sells them.
****ing expensive tho.
$140 a side I think from memory.
And thats US dollars.

Would be a fair sight cheaper to build your own PCB board with LED's on it, to suit whatever tail light assembly youve got. All you need is a bit of soldering talent, and basic electronic knowledge.

Cant just do LED's on the rear..... you need to do the front too or else they will look odd (delayed flash, especially at night.)......... and then the dash too

Yeap, i've got them..still going strong.

They look great, be careful of the diode on the mini mania ones as the angle of the light transmitted has a small angle that you can actually see the light from.

They should be a flat disc type so the light is dispersed properly..

i saw the tailights for about $200 dollars, so if josh(mini mad) got all the lights done for $180, that seems pretty reasonable.

Jaycar Electronics have them for $14.95 , stop/tail and indicators , they are just a straight replacement for the globe , and they much brighter than the normal globes , see below

The ones from jaycar use a normal diode..this pretty much gives off light straight out the back with little dispersion...



You want something with a flat disc, so the light is dispersed properly..you will most likely get in trouble with the police running Jaycar ones as you can't see the light properly if you look side on....

Well .......... all Led's are actually illegal for use in cars at the moment , unless they actually came out with them . Led's tend to disperse light in all directions , we use them a lot in railway signalling and they are excellent . I have ordered a couple of these from Dick Smith , so will let you know if they are any good ...cheers

I never said they were legal, but you will have a higher chance of getting pinged if you can't see them from the side clearly.

It depends on the intensity rating, the more intense the light, the less angle it's viewable from..generally 10-15* with the intense LED's ..



All i'm saying is that people want to be careful with what they put in, you do get what you pay for..plug them in and check if you can look from the side and still see the light...I know i put mine in so i could be seen not just look cool.
