Gday Matt - looks like a bloody electric kettle I have in the garage has consumed your HIFF44 or something...

Saw your pix on your website - I thought minis were trouble - but a Kombi??

Will be up that way in a week so might have to pop over for a chat and an ale..

Yeah 68mini,,,it was on an old Volvo with it`s partner(twins) but it probly originally came from an old rover or similar old pohmmy sh!t car :-)

I have the set of twins , they were both on that volvo & i`ve since modded up a manifold to take both of them to fit the mini,,,so keep on the watch out for a twin 2" SU carb set...hee hee,,,sorry just can`t help myself. :-)

both these 2" SU`s have the ability to swap sides,,,in otherwords, they are both ambidexterous(spelling?)

the carby bodies have fittings for all the ancillaries on both sides of each carb,,,pretty cool hey?

& Morris 1100...i`ll be watching that one,,,thanks :-)

CPOCSM,,,just give me a call before you come & i`ll make sure i can meet you at my place & i`ll definately have a beer with you yeah!!!... 0407 135 656

"not made in Italy" Huh!!!!!!!!!!!,,,yeah right,,, so fiat motors are made in italy & look where they went,,,---->into Lada Nivas :-)

I once set up a pair of 1"&1/4 SU carbs on a honda Zot,,,yep 360cc of pure race grunt,,,hee hee,,,went really well tho,,,the customer couldn`t wipe the smile off his face for months,,,took me ages to sort them tho,,,whew!!! won`t do it again :-)

yeah,,,i`m only kidding about the italian thing,,,webers & dellortos are both top carbs, love em both dearly, easy to work with & allow heaps of air in. goota love that!!!

I do however prefer the SU for road use, as there`s no substitute for smooth responsive drivability with economy down low on a road car & yet they easilly supply enough for up top,,,

you only gotta look at the 80s where the average nissan was fitted with hi boosted 2litre turbo engines with just a single 1"&3/4 SU feeding it,,,can`t go past the facts hey????

or a 1700cc harley sucking the guts outa a single SU,,,

hee hee,,,i won`t go on & on,,,cause then i`ll get swamped with the ferrari & weber/dellorto issue :-)

And a properly setup weber isnt smooth? My car purrs and runs incredibly smoothly. The local dynotune guy said it would run like a dog with a weber at idle because of the mixture being lean on the outer cylinders... he tuned it and then ate his words- also complemented how well it drove :) usually mechanics hate minis because they are 'slow and old'.

Christoph,,,i wasn`t saying that webers & dellortos aren`t smooth (when set up properly on a mini with a mild to small cam grind fitted)

what i was getting at was the "With Economy" part,,,sure, you can set one up lean enough to run economically,,, but where`s the fun in that ???,,,& what was the reason for fitting the weber in the first place then?...right????

i love em,,,like i said in an earlier post,,,easy to set up & simple to work with & allow heaps of air in & also in a much better distributed fashion than a single throat set up.

just that a nice set of twin large SU`s are better suited for road/club use...only my opinion tho,,,

i`ve only been doing this stuff on minis since i was born ,41 years ago ,,,allways learning tho :-)

Pffft economy... by driving my mini I am already being economical over my other car 3.8L VS Bombadore. Man I can't get over how people can drive 5.7L V8! it must be a tank every 2 days!

on the smooth and road use issue... I have a stocko 1098 (ok with extractors and a zorst) and whacked in a Dellorto 45 DHLA in the place of a single 1 1/4 SU that was jetted slightly rich, and i find that it is a hell of a lot more driveable than before...

I can actually accelerate up Lanecove road after Blaxland road (you know that big hill), on 4th. Before it was a struggle on 3rd at best! On the SU I couldn't utilize the full rev range cause the 1 1/4 was getting hammered at about 3500rpm or so...

Anyway I dunno about twin 1 1/4's but I aint regretting the dellorto install that's for sure. She runs pretty good and it was all done by hand by the Doc, No dyno tuning done.

Is it worth doing dyno? cause the doc's handywork is pretty darn good I must admit... the plugs look good and she runs nicely?? I am thinking that I won't do dyno etc for this engine and wait a few years and do it all again and properly with a 1275 donk...

yeh mate but its hard to compare a 1 25 SU and a 45DHLA which you have on now
a fairer comparison would be a set of twin 1 25s or 1 5s and your carb or or a 1 75 single carby

Its all personell preference they all have their pros and cons but i once went for a ride a while back in Matts 1510 Targa car which at the time had a 1 75 Single SU and i wasnt complaining
