A kit car is treated as a new vehicle and has to comply with all the current ADRs, which means that every bit of the car has to be from a car that has been ADR approved or the bits must be marked as ADR approved, the engine will havee to be ADR79/01 compliant and be fitted with all the standard computer and parts from the car sometimes having to use the cars dash instruments, you will need to test the car for braking and stability tests and drive by noise

Its the reason that you don't see many kitcars these days, they have tried to kill them with rules and nearl done it

is it (still) true that if you don't have doors, you don't need intrusion bars, if you don't have a windscreen you don't need wipers etc. ?

Its a fun thing trying to deal with what and what is not required and each state and engineer is different, side intrusion is still required for cars without doors but most engineers take into account the type of construction of the chassis or frame, yes you can get away with no wipers of demister if you don't have a windscreen ( not sure how long that will last) and at a meeting of builders the other week we talked about airbags and are just waiting for rego to insist on them :D

The Hotrod boys get around it by having the original chassis from whatever age it comes from, even though it might be a complete regiged chassis it will have tjhe original peice of metal with the chas no in the right pllace, that way the car is registered as a 34 ford or whatever as a modified vehicle and each mod only has to meet the ADR of the vehicle that the bit comes from, ie if you use a 71 351 and can prove its age it only has to meet 71 emission ADRs, its a bit of a trick but it works for them :D

i do like the idea of a busa mini but it is not that original. It has been done heaps in the uk.
www.theminiforum.co.uk have quite a few guys doing it at the moment including the entire build of the green one from miniworld/mag

Not trying to hang crap on you or anything. Just passing on info.

Just a thought but im pretty sure cars need to reverse. Bikes dont have a reverse gear so how you gonna get around that? A transfer case perhaps wich would give you as many reverse gears as forward. This im pretty sure would be your biggest headache

they usually put a flywheel and starter motor on the axle for reverse, not very hard to do. I'd say that is the least of your worries.
