I do agree with using A+ for modifing for many reasons. I'll by saying i dont own one but i would for racing as I have a mk1 cooper s motor, not what you want to butcher up with lightening and other metal removing procedures. But A+ or even a clubman 1275, rather A+ can bve sourced as an import easily, reasonbably cheaply as they are fairly common, you can even get a metro 1275. In my opinion, for racing to not damage or butcher old historical engines A+ is much better, you'll get the asme performance, differnt engine number but who caes, its about power not saying its a cooper s 1460 supercharged or something stupid like that..I mean for the purists neways...

Go the Verto clutch!!!

A+ blocks are easily available.

Etc etc..
Too tired to dribble on my crap.

Oh and the A+ came out standard with rod change boxes too.
Yet to see a sloppy A+ box.
Everything will go sloppy with age, look at your Missus in 10 years time.

Most of the racers that are using PROPER cooper S stuff are in Nb, where their class requires it.
Most others use 12Y blocks

I'm pretty reluctant to use a 9F/SA/Y motor for racing, only for stock style of racing, for classes. But since my car is not a genuine cooper s only has a genuine engine it's not a cooper s therefore i dont think it can really qualify for that kind of class racing so I'd really rather use readily available A+ gear that I can feel happy with thrashing knowing that its from a metro, a normal car, If i destroyed a cooper s motor, i'd be destroying a piece of motoring history...maybe i'm a little to interested in the heritage of the mini, just maybe  But yeah go A+, steve has everything for em, I wouldn't go injected tho....single point is probably alright but not twin point, they are quite crap for moding but nicely economical standard, but who wants stock?
