The Co-driver will be "okay"-if that's what you can call it-He will mostly likely never get over this.
Targa West is still happenning, although three Teams have pulled out-Mitsubishi,Subaru and BMW.This was supposed to be a "Fun Event".
Helping with the Event today,it's not going to be a lot of fun.................

well, at least hes alive....
A death can be such a huge blow for motorsport events, especially one of this importance, as im sure the media will make clear over the next few days, they never seem to remember, that when entering these events, drivers and crew are aware of the risks, and accept them in return for doing somthing they love, im sure brock would like to see the event continue, live the dream and all that...
good luck today.

The car looks to me like a "Superformance Le Mans Coupe" a very small production (even semi kit) car inspired by the original Shelby Daytona racers. It was designed by another Peter Brock, an American racecar driver and designer, usualy known as "Pete" Brock.
They are regularly advertised in British car magazines as an "80,000 pound "built and delivered" 502bhp, 207Mph supercars".

Its sad to die like this as a gentleman racer for fun after surviving a 30 year proffesional career.

I think it was one of these. An AC Cobra Daytona Coupe replica. An absolute animal of a car. All grunt no handling. Its an AC Cobra with a different body made in South Africa

By a quirk of fate, I was in Bathurst last night and this morning as the news of Peter Brock became widely known. I knew Peter Brock back in the seventies when I was actively racing. It may have only been a passing acknowledgement but he knew me and I knew him but we did nod at one another.

Anyway, these photos were taken at the "Brockies Skyline" point on the Mt Panorama circuit this morning amongst a constant stream of people laying floral wreaths for Brockie. I was filmed by Nine news laying my wreath (had to do it three times) and it may or not be on tonights nine news. Black hat and black jumper with the same red commodore as in the photos. The two woment are my wife Regina and her sister who lives in Bathurst.

Nice pictures Mike, thanks for sharing them with us. 8) EDIT - Channel 10 news has you placing the flowers.
As an aside, what struck me about the Daytona he was driving was it's similarity to the marcos at the rear.

It's amazing the number of people who have personal anecdotes of meeting Brocky, he really was the people's hero who always tried to make himself available to the fans.
The 3 personal memories of Brocky that stand out to me are;

1) His win in 87 as a privateer. Despite inferior machinery, he still managed to out on top. A far greater achievement than his wins as part of the HDT.

2) That silly "Peter Brooks" ad in the eighties. I guess its appeal was that he was willing to poke fun at his fame.

3) A supertouring car round at Amaroo that a mate competed in, and there was Brocky being very competitive in that "bloody" Volvo wagon. He DNF'ed due to mechanical problems, parked the Volvo in the pits, and casually strolled down pit lane to chat and sign autographs.

Vale.

Three aussie icons have died this week, but you are right, both brock and irwin both died doing what they love this whole even reminds me of the rock and roll's sadest month in which Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and someone else who I can't think of all died within a month, all aged 27 all doing what they loved which happened at the time to be...umm..well...drugs. All coincidence yeah, same as this week, but you know what they say, everything comes in 3's or so i've heard.

I remember the VL Nitron ad in the late 80's - Brocky and a girl being chased by some bogans in a Falcon.... I don't remember exactly what she said first, but then she said "but Peter, they've got a car", he said "that's not a car, this is a car!" and flung the doors open to an old shed and the Nitron was inside - they took off and left the bogans for dead

the car was indeed a Shelby Daytona replica, but was built in Melbourne by a fellow who made a lot of money in business, is now retired and always wanted a Daytona, so he designed and built these. There are 7 in existence, Brocky's was the 2nd or 3rd produced, and I think was running an LS1 motor. The quote from Peter was that the car shouldn't be legal, it was too much fun - so you can guarantee he died doing what he loved

Steve Irwin b 22 Feb 1962 d 4 Sept 2006
Peter Brock b 26 Feb 1942 d 8 Sept 2006

sorry.. been busy dealing with a death in the in-laws family...;)

here you go....

(btw.. that's not a chop)

to be honest, brocky's death has affected me alot more than mr irwins...

I have a whole host of brilliant memorys thanks to him not only that but a silly desire to own an austin a30 with an engine transplant.....

but you still need to celebrate life, not mourn death....

Both my wife and my self were on the nine news - my wife was the one in the segment named "grief on the mountain" who placed the daffodils - wearing a striped t-shirt. I was the one in a 2004 Hay Mini nationals polar fleece who laid the flowers, paused and then took off my hat.

It was on both the intro to the news and the above segment.

I am with Slinkey, Ryan and willy on this one, James I agree that Cushy's sense of 'humour' regarding the Irwin tradgedy was out of line (in my opinion) however you blanket comment regarding the "Adelaide Crew" is also out of line.

I myself am apart of the Adelaide mini scene and all the people that I have spoken too are shocked and just as sad.

I think you should edit your post mate, as there are plenty of other people who have made these comments such as blokeinamoke (who did make a farking lame comment in the other Brocky thread). I understand why you wrote what you did but personally I found it offensive.

RIP Brocky, You wont be forgotten but will be sorely missed

Condolences to the family, close friends, aquantices and fans out there

Matt

When I found out about Peter Brocks death I was shocked. I was shocked that we had lost a great driver. I hope he enjoys that giant curcuit in the sky.

We had seen him driving, winning, talking and selling sheds. However there was a lot about Peter Brock that was not the stuff of idols.

If we celebrate their humanity, instead of celebrity, we would discover that other people pay the price that makes "Great Men".

My comment in the other thread was based on the same reaction to Steve Irwins passing. People of less profile deserve our admiration and celebration as much if not more than these two, yet receive none because of their profession, appearance or circumstance. Who cries for them online.
