Boostedmini on here ran his 1360? turbo for many years, with a bone stock Mini-K remote box (same as Mk2 S except ratios).
Warwick Agustin races his Mini with a Toyota 4AGE 1.6L twincam on Mini box. Done so for years and it's quick. No drop gears, it's chain driven to the gearbox...
Many people in UK ran Ford Kent motors on a Mini box, Manx did a conversion kit for it.
There is still one in WA with a Ford twincam on it.

The 4 synchro ones are stronger internally than the 3 synchros, which nobody (except Nb racers) use by choice now.

so that was a hardie spicer joint that came apart? was it just that the bolts came out, or did the universal itself break up?

if the box has already been welded - I'd be changing the internals over to another case... a Mini K 22G1128 box (same as MK2 S) is pretty easy to come by, and it'd be the same as what you have

This is certianally repairable, find a good welder they should be able to TIG the hole up, you may need to take the box of the engine and clean out the box of the scrapnel, swarf.

The only thing is the box needs to be really really clean to get a good weld.

I had a simular problem and the guy just welded the hole up one the hoist, its was a standard 998 so worth the risk went until it finally died which was many years later
