Anton

i tried to recover the original 850 engine from my Mini Minor yesterday. Got a lead that when Warwick sold off Mini Spares and Repairs that padstow pirate had bought all the engines. He was good enough to go through his stock lists to check if it was still there. Sadly its gone to engine heaven, since they took all the 850 blocks to the metal recyclers, because "850 pistons are not available anymore" Don't know why he couldn't admit that he did not want to participate in a non-viable segment of the market  Well non viable from his point of view.

If your beau pere wants to restore to original grab that 850 off makka. Seems some in the local industry are not prepared to support the 850 engine market

The 850 I am throwing into this deal is in good nick- std bore with bugger-all wear, crank is good, & std size too- a set of rings, bearings and an oil pump and it'll purr like new.
It's a late model 850 donk- has the `big tail' crank... :P

I'd grab Makkas 850 as well though, U need a magic wand gearbox. I'll throw an 850 gearbox case in but that's all it is.

The shell is great and we appreciate the work that Kev has done on it so far. Shame it had a hole cut in it for a RH tank. We wanted to do this one back to original. It will still get that treatment, just have to put a RH tank in there to fill the hole

Don't expect to see it on the road for a while though.....my father in law isn't retiring for another 12 months. In that time I am going to finish the body work and paint it for him. After that, it will become his retirement plan!

Hey Anton- just fit a chrome blanking plate or a fake filler, & sell the RH tank for $BIG... haha.. :P

yea Kev, we chatted about a fake filler neck, and decided NO WAY! That's why we hit you up for the RH tank as well  Since it's got the hole, might as well fit it with the goods!

yea, only used for one year of production. Here is a site with paint codes, which shows Sunset Red as a 1964 colour ONLY.

There is a lot of merit in keeping that colour.
