mate dat Moke belongs to Vince mate, and it is SIK mate, ok mate.

I am telling you whats, Vince done a lot of work on hims, fully SIK seats from hiz WRX mate.....

Sorry guys, just couldn't help myself whan I saw the seats and number plate.

There is a lot of merit in keeping a car totally original that is 40 years old. Credit to the guys who do that. What ticks me off is that sometimes these guys are one eyed, and will not appreciate something even slightly modified. Personally, I love both totally original, and modified.

I painted my Clubman a Honda colour, because Leyland didn't have anything that cut it for me. I wanted to get into my Mini and think how good it looked, not how horrible the original colour is/was.

Well i have been told by Gordie and MiniMafia that my mini is in too good and original condition to modify. I want to put brakes on the mini, and put a go faster engine in it. But i have always been up for keeping old cars very original.
So i have a big decision to make. But whatever i do i will always love the mini.
Its just too much fun

Well, in my opinion, engine and brake mods are not that much of
a big deal... they are just bolt on's. it takes a weekend to put the original
motor back in (taking account of the fact that you wil need to get the
car blue slipped to change an engine over) so i say mechanically
wise have as much fun as you want (you could do what im doing -
just paint the engine in original colours (if yours is a early clubby wiht
an 1100cc motor it should be blue, later clubmans had black engines
with silver rocker covers) to give the impression it is ridgy didge

but i think it would be nice to keep things like the interior and such
stuff original - at the MCC of NSW show and shine there was a
beautiful original (restored) early 1100cc clubman and it got a lot
of attention and looked really good - you dont see too many original
clubbie s anymore  plus if most of the car is good the most important
thing is the whole thing will be heaps cheap to do   8)

but then again whatever decision you make im sure the car will
look great. do it how YOU want it

Here Here! to danidad.

The issue is not one of modifying or not, that is a personal choice thing and each to their own.

What i am hearing here is the issue of those who presume to DEMAND that you must do it their way. Where do you [the purist] get off? Do not dare to tell me or anyone else for that matter what I can or cannot do. I'll let you do it you way, so have the decency to let the rest of us do it to our own taste.

Offers of advice and experienced opinion are warmly welcomed - DEMANDS to restore only accourding to your gospel of originality will only be met here by contempt.

To make myself clear here - I admire original. I only hold in contempt those that DEMAND that I follow their purist ideal, that I have no choice, that I MUST do it this way. I will do my car whatever way I like thank you very much.

To Dani and her Dad - I have arrived at this thread a couple of days late but it is already obvious that you guys have much more support here than the few odd balls that think they have the right to dictate to you. You do whatever you want with that beaut little car/s. Make it yours and enjoy it as yours because whatever you decide to do, it will be just right for you.

I think that anyone who modifies a Mini in any way, shape or form should hang their head in shame!!! What an outrage and disgrace to even think about modifying a Mini.

Just joking!!

Well someone had to say it, even if it was a joke

Hehe this from Mr Bling Bling Wheels

Take it from a different perspective, take the word mini out of this discussion and pretend that we were talking about Holdens. As if anyone in their right mind wouldn't put a massive 8inch diff on their Torana SL/R 5000! you'd be called insane to at least want to do it...

So why the necessity for purist in a Mini? As i take it back in the 60's as soon as you bought a 850 or a deluxe, the first thing you did was put Cooper bonnet stripes on and throw on flares, contessa, and various paddy hopkirk accessories?? if they were doing back in the "hay day" of minis, who is to say that we can't do it now??

If i walked up to a hot rodder and told him that he shouldn't mod his car and spray it in original factory colours, put back the original engine and keep the original upholstery, i can assure you I wouldn't be walking for very much longer!

So enough already! It's not your car, it's their car, let them do what they want to their cars. Besides the more they mod, the more your original Cooper S will be worth so what's your point??

I guess the same might be said in 20 years, about people who bought a brand new VY Dunnydore and kitted it and say put fluro's underneath it. People do that now, but might be frowned upon in 20 years for 'ruining a classic'

 ...you never know!!

i agree with all said. i think we have all
come to the consensus any one should
do whatever they want to to their minis,
and those that give them grief should go
to hell. so long as your keeping the
car in the road who can complain   8)

now dats the end of that chapter :D
