it's easy to say this after only seeing the footage on the news, but I'd say the cage didn't get a lot of use in that crash - the car didn't appear impact on the roof at all - his biggest risk was the helmet whipping his head around :?

still, anyone who walks away from any sort of accident is lucky - nice car, hope he's gonna be there battling it out again next year

i agree, he took most of the impact at the front... only lightly hit the roof, even in that end barrell roll, he was in the air then didnt hit too bad on it at the end..

I'd agree too, except that the belts are connected to the cross brace across the rear part of the cage. The safety cage is not just for roll-over protection and I will be interested to hear what Dave has to say regarding the incident.

Hope David is AOK....unfortunately, later in the day, I believe he needed 17 stitches in a finger loading the bent Mini onto a tipper trailer

I just spoke to David on the phone, he's 100% OK after the accident, but he managed to cut the top off one of his finger putting the car back onto the trailer, he's more angry about the finger than the accident, the car is virtually a write off, every panel is bent but the passenger compartment is undamaged thanks to the roll cage. As David said, "the expensive roll cage that was put in the car in 1990 has just paid for itself".

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.
