the next strongest in the line up would have to be the large journal 1275cc cranks,,,they can take up to 9000rpms all day in std form & we use these carnks as a base for our stroker 1415cc engines & can handle 8000rpms all day

Are the large journal 1275cc cranks all the same? Such as those that are found in some of the Morris 1100s 1275 engines? Or is this a mini specific large journal crank we're speaking of?

All the same, if you are talking Oz A series. An LS1275 or 1275 Moke crank is just an 1100S later type one.

ah Doc,,,you got me there,,,i`d actually forgotten about that little beauty,,,but you gotta admit,,,they`re very few & far between ey???

dewey,,,most of the large journals are "effectively" the same,,,they do differ slightly here & there but basically if it`s a large journal 1275cc crank then it`s interchangeable with another large journal 1275cc crank no problemo,,,(slight differences can be found with materials & rolled fillets on the later english cranks,,,but still interchangeable with our 1100s/1275 large journals

& Hey There Jim...good to hear from you again mate,,,we will have to have another Qld/NSW MDC meet again ey??? :-) & don`t swap your crank for an 1100 one mate,,,they`re the wobbly-est of em all i reckon.

cross drilling is meant to help an oil feed issue/situation,,,i`m not such a big fan of it as it reduces the strength of the crank...if it cracks, guess where it will crack from/to/first etc

& Nitriding is one type of hardening process,,,tuftriding is another, there are lots but they`re probly the most common for crank shafts

I've been meaning to go to one of these much spoken of MDC events for ages. Good ol' Gazza Hind invited me along to a few last year but I could never make it

yeah if you bore out the 1275 block and then stick a 1071 crank in youll end up with a smaller capacity but a stronger and higher reving engine specially if you put a turbo on then you have a turbo 1220 or 1160ish that revs to 10000 rpm or above

Matt,
OK I'll ask the question. What is the difference between the Sth African 1071 crank and non Sth African 1071 cranks?

Pretty sure the Seth Effrikan one was a big pin crank. 1.75" big ends.. the usual 1071S was 1.625".
