Hi guys,
Mk1 Cooper S, 1.5" SU's, cam and Longman head, 3.444 diffy. It returns about 9 liters a 100K's highway with two up, round town a hell of a lot less!

Regards
Al

the high diffs let em down too,
my mate just got arround 6.5l/100k out of his 1293 clubman, extractors, otherwise standard, over 400km of 95% open road (nz road, not straight roads), BUT thats with a 2.9 diff and 145/10's.

The austin 1300 i have, 100% stock, on the same trip gets about 10l / 100k, with 3.44 and 155/12's but its a little heavier.

my stock 1000 roundie (1.5in su, 3.44) used to be somwhere in between the two, driven very spiritedly used to be somwhere inbetween. strangly i found that when i put 165's on, it used a bit more fuel.

its important not to overlook wheel alignment as a factor also.

wow, thats like my 8 cents worth.

I have no idea what mine is - it's not why I own a mini!

If I wanted efficiency I'd be driving a Fench deisel, not a 50 year old english petrol design.

My Moke, with dead standard 998, cast manifold, peashooter exhaust, 1&1/2 SU. . .and the blow through supercharger, gets almost exactly 16mpg (about 18 litres/100km, I think).
No fuel leaks, no black smoke, plugs almost perfect colour. . .love to know where all the fuel goes!!

I ran Henry dry just to see how far I could go. I have a 7.5 gallon tank and the motor is a 998cc, STD cam, DHLA 40, Maniflow extractors and a lukey muffler.

In the end I tipped the odometer at 435km, however I was right on the limit(110kph-ish) so could have possibly squeezed a little more out of it. Took me ages to get it going again though(priming the lekky pump)but put 10 more litres in it and got home to Canberra

Cant work out the mpg though - my brain hurts.

Hooroo

on the way to hay at ~90kph i was getting 6L for 100kms. When I got hay I realised the clamp on my drivers side SU's fuel pipe that connect to the float was lose! On the way home at 110kph (I was wearing the new engine in the way and had decided it was worn in enough for higher rpm on the way home) I got about the same, 7L for 100kms at 100kph, thats pretty good. Now it's down as me driver side float is spilling fuel on decceleration. I have heard of this before, it just started happening a week ago. I'm gonna get an SU float kit to see if that fixes it, I mean these carbies are from 64-65 somewhere like that, old!

When you fill the car write down the litres and the KM. It is no use saying that I am getting about 250 out of a tank or whatever, you need the correct figures. You need to fill the car right up to get the correct figures.

CPOCSM, you did 435km which equals 270.3miles. If you put 7.5gallons in the tank it would work out at 36mpg (7.8 L/100km) But how much fuel does your 7.5 gallon tank hold? They never hold the amount that is claimed.

I have recorded the fuel economy of my 1100 since I got it in 1998 and at the moment I am getting around 29mpg. (9.7 L/100km)

I get better on highway. As in town at every light it's like little ricer see-ya, suzuki swift falling behine in the mirror. HAHA! Yeah I enjoy accerating at a farily normal, pace it just amazes people how quick a mini is off the line, you'll catch it later but dam it's fast off the line!

I have a 1300cc Leyland with twin carbies (not sure of size  ), extractors, 10inch jelly beans, hot cam

Normally get bewteen 7-8L/100km (depending on town/freeway)

It revs its ass off on the freeway.

My car is a 998 with extractors and ramflo + bored out intake manifold.

When i first got my car i was using 10L/100km but it was running so rich that it was eight-stroking and leaving clouds of black smoke wherever i went. I have tuned it a bit and now I am getting around 7.7L/100km (averaged over several fills, using odometer and readings off bowser), although it is still a bit rich and the needle isn't right.

I am hoping to get it down to around 6L/100km or less after i have finished overhauling and putting in a new carby and setting it up properly with the correct needle etc.

My driving is also fairly spirited, and i don't slow down much for corners in order to save fuel. Braking is such a waste
