You can tint you rear and rear side windows as dark as you want, the laws
only apply on the drivers window and windscreen.

Looks great. 8)

Different states have different rules , pretty sure in NSW there are limits for all windows , not just the front windows .

I recently got my van windows done and was told that I could get the rear windows darker than legal.

I chose not to because it would look odd. $300 for a van which included installation of all the glass except 1/4 windows. (I gave them the glass out of the car so they could tint to the edge).

Most NSW pink and blue slip inspectors are supposed to have a machine that checks degree of tint as there is legal limits on it.

I am not totally sure but I also believe that NSW Highway Patrol carry the same sort of equipment to check illegal tint depth.

I did, however, think that there was extreme limits of the depth of tint that can be applied to a front windscreen

when emm got her windows tineted the lady had some interesting info.

a) They tint police cars with darker than legal tint
b) There was some law passed some time ago limiting the tint levels HOWEVER the Police were never issued with the correct light meters that you need to test it with, so there is no way of testing if your tint is too dark

I did hear that - thats is that the Auctions were selling ex-police cars that could be classed as defective.

I've also heard that you can get away with it on cars that were made before the year the tinting limits were brought in.

Thats a big loophole.
Are you sure that that is not for cars that had tinted glass fitted by the factory prior to the law.

I think that a car that has polymer film applied to it and if that film is simply too dark then it would attract attention regardless of the age of the car.

The reality, I suppose, is that the authorities would only pick on a marginly over tinted car if they had a reason to - ei - the car is doing donuts in Campbell Pde Bondi and the authorities arrived after the donut burnout is over.

Basically what Mike said from what I can gather , technically if it's a factory tinted glass that was before the new rules then they can't touch it . If it's a film added after the factory (and can be removed) but before the rule change it can be removed by the rta under or instruction by the police , but they'll normally only do that if you've really pi55ed them off and they are looking for a reason to defect your car . Anybody watch the police show last night with the lawyer getting done for speeding and dui who was arguing with the coppers about the legality of them stopping him ? I wouldn't be surprised if when he went back to his car there was some form of defect sticker on it for being difficult . If the car looks good , the tint matches the condition of the car and you're not being difficult or trying to drag at the lights or anything you should be fine but play up and they'll add it to the list ...

Looks good. 8)

A couple of people I know have "darker than average" window tinting on their cars.
