i glanced over the brakes of a charade last time i was at pick and pay more, they looked pretty small..... thought about grabbing a set but i reckon i have enough honda ones to convert before i look elsewhere

Yeah kev, i reckon the 12 inch conversion is very engineer friendly, i suppose it depends on how thorough the engineer is, if i had to put my safety approval on them i certainly would like to know whats been taken of where, i reckon i would like to compare the caliper to an unmodified one.

i have a 92 charade and i think the rotors are the same/very similar offset. but* i tried to fit a 12in mini rim ( i know studs are different) and they didnt fit without spacer. but spaced out 19mm who knows ;)

I think it all depends on the engineer, from what I've heard.
Find one over there in Perth and ask him.

Handy to know:

A mate of mine is a State Rep for a well known mag wheel wholesaler. I was in his car on Friday, looked on the floor, saw this thing and thought "What the f*&k is that"?. So naturally I ask.

Now spacers being illgeal primarily as they are not fixed, he tells me his is able to acquire(read between lines, letigious society) these things that rectify the new offset design of late model mag wheels. One thing they also allow you to do is fit a wheel of a different stud pattern to that of your existing hub.

How they work. They bolt to your existing studs so that the head of the stud nut counter sinks into the spacer. They then have their own studs that are made to suit the wheel that you wish to put on the car.

Meaning, if you fitted these to your mini you need to quote the existing mini stud pattern (4 inch PCD?), the thickness of the spcaer you require and the stud pattern of the wheel you wish to fit. $55 per corner apparently.

I saw those things with 2 stud patterns (only freakin' BIGGER) at Big Balls (!) Motorsport a while back. They were for Landcruisers etc. The guy said they are illegal for the road, but OK for off-road.. (nudge nudge wink wink).

Also Brad was told by his engineer that if the `spacers' are screwed to either the wheel or the hub (or disc), they are technically not spacers.

Make of that what you will. The Honda discs/spacers (attached) mount exactly like a Mini S drum does.

Hey, does anyone know if I can run Rover Cooper 12" wheels with 165 tyres over Civic disks left at the standard diameter? Would prefer no spacer or flares if possible.

Whats the going rate for these wheels? I can get a set for $200 with 2 good tyres and 2 worn ones.

Thanks

Yes, they will fit without flares or spacers. But you may have clearance problems between the tyre and the radius arm at the rear. Can you borrow a wheel and tyre form the seller and test it on your car?

EDIT: $200 for a set with two good tyres is good value! Cheapest I've seen them change hands for $300 a set without any tyres. Get the wheel nuts in the deal too if you can.

Cheers.

Thanks Brett,
Maybe I can put small spacers on the back to clear.

Unfortunately I can't check as my car is in Australia and I am in Singapore!

I might just get them anyway, as you say it is pretty cheap. Wheel nuts are included.

Thanks

Biggest Disks for drum hubs I could fit

The biggest combo I found to sit in 13"=

Volvo 4 pots (right angle brake line connectors)
Starrion rotors (massive thermal mass)
cooper studs
Fab caliper mounting plate
Fab disk mount to hub (disk screwed onto this)
Hyper Fang II 13x6 rims (needed for caliper clearance)

On drum hubs

These are massive (and heavy) considering the calipers are for a 1500kg car and the disks are for a 1200kg car it needed a rear adj bias and very large master cylinder
(volvo). The brake pedal has near no travel but very good feel, this let me se

**** I had reduced turn angle ****

If your going 12" then the tyre options are limited more then 13"

Hey

I've got the wheels and rotors ready to go. I just did a ring around for rotor quotes... I will be getting new ones as there is no parts on the Gold Coast... its pathetic. Only this dodgy place that specialises in Honda wrecking and they're a rip off and don't work saturday mornings, which means I can't get there.

Anywho, I got a quote for some brembo's which are about 2/3 the cost of DBA per side. Seems like a good price to me. Are brembo up to standard compared with DBA?
