If you mean your pink slip is out of date, (they are only valid for 20 days I think) you will have to get a new pink slip

The rego itself can be up to three months after the run out date before you need a blue slip? So long as the vehicle is not being used on the roads ?

Hey whadya know! The RTA are easing up on us!

I checked a pink slip from 2004 and it was only valid for 28 days!

I got caught out once, got the pink slip a bit early and then rego'd it late and was past the 28 days, seems you now have 42 days!! :D

Cool 8)

Depends on the mechanic and the type of pink slip he issued. If its an electronic one then no; the details are already recorded. If its the pink paper one we may just re-issue one without requiring to again in inspect the car.

As far as blue slips go - people get very frightened of them and i dont know why. Its no more thorough that an pink slip (or shouldn't be). Identification of the vehicle is just another point the blue slip requires. Another major difference is that a pink slip is back dated to the date the rego was due whilst a blue slip allows re-registration to start on the day you walk through the RTA door.

Cost is a difference. The pink slip is $29, the blue slip is $46 plus the $34 for a new set of number plates.

Bottom line - just tell your inspector that you couldn't afford the rego and green slip on the due date. Tell him the car has sat idle he he inspected it - ask him what does he want you to do - bring it back in or will he just issue another pink slip.

You are allowed to legally drive an unregistered car to an insection point for the purpose of an inspection.

This is true, but some cops do get toey about it.
One H/P officer threatened the dude doing my blueslip 10 years ago whilst he was out testing the brakes. The cop reckoned he should have had his trade plates on it, or some BS.

Good idea I was told is to make the appointment, then write yourself a `to whom it may concern' letter stating that at such and such a time and date, you are driving the car to Joe Bloggs workshop for the purpose of a blue slip rego check.

Of course if it has plates, and is just overdue for a pinkie, this does not apply- you would be dead unlucky to get pinged on the way there....
