I'm busy with a project same as this. I changed a clubman front and back suspension to backwheel drive. (Opel manta suspension). Now i have all the space in the world to stick a nice motor in it. I still have the 2.5l Opel motor which i already fitted inside the engine bay with the 5speed box. I first wanted to fit a rotary into it but working out the cost to maintain it is far beypond my fireplace....

there's an article in an old miniworld mag about the hayabusa powered jobby. basically the guy built two turbocharged hayabusa bikes to get teh UK land speed record. did that, then loaned one of them to a journo, who trashed it. he then had a turbo motor and a mini sitting there. you can see him and his mates in the shed one weekend going hmmmmmm :D why not put it in the mini .....yeah and why not make it rwd......scary thing is the guy did it. i'll see if i can scan the article if i still have it around somewhere

i've seen a company that builds the conversion for a bike modification for a mini. Very expensive... Was in the region of 5800 pounds...

I will see if i can get a picture and a url for you....

We had a guy in sa on the 2003 minishow that build a 650cc kawasaki bike motor in the back of a pannelvan with 6 gears etc. Wow that thing weas fast.... Sounded quite cool aswell...

Information of Bike engineered mini...

Single Engined Mini (Road Legal)
This Mini is fitted with a single Honda Blackbird engine.

With carburetor jet modifications and a free flowing Tony Law exhaust system this engine produces approximately 170 bhp.

yes. a mini pannelvan.. the mini was not registered so they brought it on a trailer. I do not think we have any problems registering something like that in sa.... I do not know where he is. He was not at the 2004 mini show.

Fastest Mini in the World?
Our Turbo Hayabusa engined mini has just run 0-60mph in 3.3secs, and standing 1/4 mile in 11 secs @ 130mph.

http://www.holeshotracing.co.uk/news.asp

Unfortunately they dont even have any pics of the Mini on their own site
They do have some piccies of their engines and bikes in a gallery section.

Oh yeah, they had to hook up an electric reverse unit for the car, coz of the motorbike setup.

I'm still pondering the 12A mini (round-nose....)

Its gotta be a bridge-port (love those things!!)
Gotta be registerable
gotta be manual.....(5-speed ?)
Gotta be FWD !!

Believe it or not, I'm thinking Hyundai Excel gearbox !!

Follow me here....
Hyundai engines are mitsu Colt engines
The Cordia was a Hatch-back Colt with a Turbo...
Gearbox is probably the same(ish)
The mini weighs a lot less that the hyundai, so the gearbox can theoretically take a lot more torque........

Shitload cheaper too !!!

Ideas ?
J

Um... the Cordia was a 2L I think. Colt was lots smaller.
And Hyundai motors aren't Mitsu's now, I think the Proton is though.

I'd go the real deal- grab a Cordia box.

Cordia Gearboxes are getting rarer now kev...... wreckers are putting the prices up... they throw out hyundai boxes......

I'm talking about the series 1 Hynudais (i had one..) 1500cc 5-speed... De-stroked Colt engine i was led to believe......

they seem physically smaller too....oh, and cable-operated gear / clutch linkages.....

I think i'd like to keep the e/w orientation and pass the exhaust down the firewall....
That engine/gearbox does look like it MIGHT fit a clubbie, but no way in a Mk1 !!

mmmm im sure we could come up with something, maybe drop the rack a couple of inches and have the engine up a couple of inches from the hubs. :D
