I'm going to try and put this post back on track:
Horsepower: generally refered to as kilowatts nowerdays.
kilowats are derived from torque in a motor, torque being a force being exerted (very simply)
acceleration is derived from force devided by mass, so logically a bigger mass needs more force to accelerate proportionatley.
therfore mini's don't need as much power as as a big V8 RIGHT?
NOT RIGHT--- we have a complex thrust upon us by all those mean peoples in bigger cars that beat us up the next hill--- they kill us with torque, momentum and ugly bodykits.
these people worship horsepower, because that's what they need they need barrow loads of power to go anywhere because of their heavy cars. this is the biggest part of their persuit to modify their cars.
hence Summernats Horsepower Hero's, Burnouts, Dyno runs, Motorsport and Drag Racing (the whole Idea of Performance in Motorsport world is centred around Horsepower)
Then Mini's came along and smashed that idea, winning monte Carlo Bathurst ETC. with like 70hp
Mini's all have awesome balance, stability. and because of the light weight and footprint requre small ammounts of braking/engine power.
most people who have ever really pushed a mini through a set of corners knows that they are awesome. But down the straight the big horsepower and momentum beats us every time.
My argument is we are making the supercar of the 60's super again, but this time we are making it pass the cars of today, which as you are aware are faster and better than the competition of the time.
Horsepower isn't something that we are obsessed about here. It's age old, and was started long before the days of here. It's engrained in every prefomance facet of cars and motorsport. And to come clean it's not all abpout power but more the delivery of it that counts, but the delivery isn't measurable (comparatavley between cars, or even between runs), the power is though.
power was being compared long before us and will be compared long after were gone, just as drags and everything else in motorsport. The engine conversions are taken on by people with a vision to improving the reliability, perfomance and handling. They are taken on by people with a vision and the means to follow it through, and we should all be proud that we picked one of the finest cars in the world and that we can dedicate so much time and thought to something to try and improve the mini.
yep, I agree with everything you say..but why hp, wht dont they do torque days?
