OMG - I am in love!!

I snapped these at MDU today. This is the best GT I have ever seen. It is build #15, from 7/1971. A Gambier Turquoise GT, with black 'basketweave' trim.

It was very hard to fault, and has set the benchmark for my own GT restoration.

I spoke at length with the owner. He built this car in 1988, and it has been in storage for the last 8 years. It was registered last week so that it could be driven to MDU today.

Full credit to the owner for an immaculate resto and for preserving one of the most mysterious and rarest Minis made in OZ.

I have never seen proof, but most in the know say 1000. This was in 1971 & 1972.

In the 80's it was fashionable to strip GT's for their donks and brakes, even when the bodies were still OK. So today there aren't very many left at all.

Gavin in NZ has about 37 on his register, and that register has been around for years.

At MDU today there were 5 GT's.

I didn't count the Cooper S's....but there were A LOT of them...... :lol:

They weren't ALL this good.
I stripped one 13 years ago that had been sandwiched in traffic, shell was bent. Not worth fixing then. :cry:
It all went into my MiniMatic.... :P

YES. In Oz, it was basically a Cooper S in a Clubby body. Some motors had the `Police Pack' too- twin HS4 carbs, cam etc.

i think they were a factory option? dunno gt will know

another question - what wheels did they come with?? contestas wouldnt have been the stock wheels
