Hi folks,
I have a really crappy piece of plastic which the rear lap-sash seat belts pass through, has anybody had a custom part made and can recommend a good place? I will get it chromed so mild steel should be ok.

Wow. Chromed mild steel, imagine hitting that in the back of your noggin in a stack. Wouldn't be nice for the back seat passenger...

I doubt any authourities would be happy with any part of a seat belt assy being custom made. They have strict ADR's for that stuff, plus chroming weakens metals.

Yeah but all im getting at is the DOT wont want people stuffing around with seat belts. Sure it was plastic b4 and metal would be stronger but it all comes down to being ADR complient...

Guys, I am pretty sure it isnt part of the actual seatbelt setup, it used to screw to the top of the hump in the middle of the back seat, the seatbelts just pass through it to keep them neat. It hasnt even been there at all for about the last six months. It just keeps them neat where they cross over.

you can't really move it because if the seat belts go through and then go off in a different direction and are pulling on the bracket, then in an accident chances are you will rip the bracket clean off, and then the seatbelt won't restrain the passenger properly anymore - would be very nasty in a roll.

This would also happen if you swapped the back seatbelts over i.e. used the one that is mounted at the back-right of the parcel shelf for the right hand side rear passenger

I think that's a common misconception - the seatbelts cross over and go through it, the direction of pull doesn't change - like rp03 said, it's just for neatness

but if you move the bracket then the direction of the pull will change through the bracket, so the bracket cannot be moved as rainbowpython03 suggested

Actually it's not just for neatness, and it does affect the ADR complience

It is there to ensure the seat belt is positioned correctly over the passenger's torso & does not slip down prior to impact. It is made of plastic as it is not an anchor point, and is not designed to take any load.

forget the chromed piece for the seatbelt you may as wel keep a house brick on the parcel shelf. Just as affective.

all very interesting debate, but the original question was does anyone know a parts manufacture that does "öne off"s". And just for the record I dont even think the plastic bracket that broke was and original part. I do take on board the safety aspects ( please bear in mine that not everyone know what the ADR is) and wouldnt do anything to compromise passanger safety (my driving exempt....lol).
