If your a mini lover you need to know what a Terrapin is.

This guy is just putting the finishing touches on his and it's sensational.

I have the plans for one of these at hoem and would love to build one but I have neither the skill nor the patience.

Best little hillclimber I remember at Amaroo Pk had a Terrapin-like frame, with a 1.6L V4 Johnson 140HP outboard motor perched on the back. No gears- they lifted it up, started it, dropped it and it did the most almighty wheelstand... and disappeared in a cloud of 2 stroke smoke.
Big 2 strokes with reed valves.. can't beat 'em for sheer torque!

The joy of a car like this is taht you can hillclimb it or circuit race it. There is a guy doing the ASSC Supersprint series in one, his car s about 60 years old and he's about 100 but it really moves. Dont see too many of them being built with proper mini motors in em these days. THey put motorbike engines in them now, but a true Terrapin has a mini motor.

As I said I have the plans to build one if anyone wants to give it a go.

Man that is an awesome car. If only i new how to build one.

I've got the step-by-step book for building one out of escort parts........and i have a donor escort too (.....now i just need a garage, welding gear and some money ) seriously though it's the same sorta concept

I'm fascinated by the gear linkage personally.. have always wondered if it was possible to raise the gear lever a little to shorten the stick and make the action a little shorter...

You're only supposed to blow WHAT off?

It does exist, its called a "quick shift" and it **** up your synchros. Try a remote change box - the shifts are shorter and more precise.

For Terrapins of sorts have a look down at Ivan's workshop in Castle Hill. He's got a few a series based formula v \ junior cars in storage and continuous reco. And one A series 850 racer on the floor.

Ivans garage reminds me of a great idea the PRB club used to have. THey would organise a run each couple of months and the destination would be someones house / workshop for a BBQ and a RAT arou nd their workshop. It's always facinating to look through someone elses stuff and ask questions.
From what you say IVAN'S place would be a good one.

BTW if you are going to Warragambah and would like plans I have them as TIF file on a disk. Let me know.
