Yeah, I was wondering why Chong didnt mention it.

Well, in his absence, ill share.
Doc and I went to grab a bite while GR and Chong were messing around with Jets in the Dellorto.

We get back and Chong says 'Check it out' ... and there is a Ramflo filter and the actual filter is just charcoal!!!! As they were tuning and messing around the engine threw out a li'l flame and the Ramflo fried!!!

Peter.

PS: Sorry, no pic of that... :(

ahem i winner i guessed 110-115 and that is straight down the middle.
man im good i think i should go buy a lotto ticket or something.

well done and the pipe look good on full song, it show how much kinetic energy is wasted out the pipe by heat.now you also wonder why turbo generate so much heat.

just having a good close look at the photos chongs one is a bit blurred cos he so happy but notice the 2 ouside pipes are opnly glowing red at the joint and the centre one is glowing red from top down.
amazing how the heat only builds up in one place.

The middle pipe gets redder sooner, because it cops twice as many exhaust pulses as the end ones do.
Wonder how long the bling paint will last....

you get them over here with red paint on and it last ohh aobut 30 secons before it turns balck and then falkes of and stinks.
I have them chromed with a special heat treatment and they last a few years before they go a dull chome colour.

i was going to say it was pulsing but its interesting to see how it affects the pips differently.

especially for anyone who hasnt seen pipes get hot befoe or burnt them selves on an exhaust system.

That is a maniflow and yes they all glow red... even the supa pipes

Yeah the fire! So there was one big backfire out the dellorto and it starts smoking!!! Graham and I ran in there, and it was already ablaze! I was like a stunned mullet and graham was frantically trying to get the thing off!  Finally with a big scredriver he managed to pry the clip off and the filter fell to the ground. I thought the whole engine was going to go boom! :P

Graham says this has happened to these ramflos before. Grieg has 3 cars at this workshop all 3 burnt by the same type of ramflo filter... I am not racking my brian about what i will use as I am still shocked from the event

anyway congratulations, 113hp is fantastic, and to have graham russell on hand the whole time to make sure it made the most out of everything you had is a huge bonus!..

now maybe the rest of us can get our stuff from GR now that you're done taking up all his time

Never had a fire with Ramflos in 13 years- but I use Finer Filter foam oil, it is a fire retardant. 8)

It is not a flame retardant!!! where does it say that?

http://www.uniflow.com.au/contents/en-us/d27.html

All it is is mineral motor oil with thickener.

The reason why it was on fire was because the car was being started about 20 times and each time fuel was being thrown at the filter. This is not normal servicing conditions for the filter and one backfire was enough to set the fuel soaked filter alight.

On that note an oiled filter was worth about 7-8hp loss...
