Don't knock the 7s unless you've tried them, I have. 8)
With decent 998 metal pads and a servo they are pretty good, definitely better than drums. I had em in my Clubby auto so they got a good workout. 8)
998 Coopers used to mix it with Ss on the track back in the 60s, they are better than Vizard says.

while i agree that lucas may not be the best, has anyone ever driven an ittalian car? my alfa gets random electrical faults all over the place, wires magicly stop transporting current, switches stop working, and today, the starter fired with the key still in my hand! the mini has never been that bad!
Lucas electrics are not the worst!

Yeah yeah.. I had a few Fiat 124 Sports coupes...
Magneti Marelli sucks more than Lucas.
But, at least it had heaps of fuses.. eg LH beam, LL beam, RH beam, RL beam... etc etc

I fitted the pulsar dizzy a while back (17/4/05) and I have not touched it since. It has been totally reliable.

Quote:
NONE of the Lucas or Pulsar dizzys have the right curve for a modified A series.
Not only would a Lucas dizzy have the wrong curve for a modified mini I bet it would have the wrong curve for a standard mini.

I fitted Aldon electric ignition to my 29D dizzy way before I heard about the Pulsar conversion, so I'm gonna stick with that and get it regraphed for my new engine, may aswell get my moneys worth :)

Dizzies are like rocker gear, alternators, whatever, go for the newest one with the least wear. That's what I think anyway. :P

the DR485, according to a cahrt that I have (dont know where i got it from tho..) the pulsar is as close to a cooper s as you would need to be. Much better than any non S dizzy's in fact according to the graph thing the curve is better than lucas for the mini, This sheet isn't about mini's in particular, it's about putting S dizzy's in pulsar and pulsar dizzy's in minis! So according to this thing, from the usa, is tha pulsar run better on S dizzy's while S's run better on pulsar dizzy's  And toyot onbes are just are just crap.... The Cortina one isn't far off an S either! This sheet and graph etc was obviously done without any consideration for electronic vs points, purely a performance thing. I've got it on PDF, i'll find it sometime and shpw some people. Quite interesting indeed! Also a mod mini wil never have corect dizzy, has to be changed no matter what!

My A+ has a Lucas dizzy with a Ducellier module. Combining French and English technology. Any wonder the pickup wire corroded inside the insulation.

My brother inlaw who owns a sparky biz in the Riverina tells me that the module in a Falcon is the same but last about half the life in a Ford, he makes a nice living replacing them
