Did and Australian mini arrive with factory bonnet stripes?
(Other than the GT, if you call them that) :D

sports 850's had a sort of a stripe as an option, but sports 850's were dealer specials not factory cars?

I'm sure Sports850 himself will inform us, but I believe it was only two dealers
that sold them, so yes, not factory.

No Aussie Mini came from the factory with stripes on the bonnet (Except the cross the bonnet and up the side stripe of the Clubman GT)
The poms didn't get stripes up the bonnet till the 90s when they came out with the "New Cooper S"

The SS, LS and 1275LS had stripes up the side.

The Sports 850 was not a BMC product. 8)

The stripes are for the Cooper Car Co and have nothing to do with any Australian car, they were first put on by Cooper when they first started exporting modified mini Coopers to Japan and rover kept doing it when they cashed in on the Jap market later on.

All of Coopers race cars including his F1 cars had this striping on the factory cars

Quite right....however...many, many Minis in the 1960s...70s, 80s had "sporty" bonnet or over the car stripes inspired by race or rally cars. A very popular one was the horizontal band across the front of the bonnet to hide all the stone chips from the magnificent roads we had in the era

and the GT had a delete option for the stripes. So not all GTs had stripes.

Still got it, and like the look of it with the matching white roof - and yes it does hide 'some' of the stone chips.

The only reason I asked is because I keep seeing all these cars claimed to be completely factory or whatever with stripes and wanted to know if stripes were factory, or that people just put them on because they look right.
(don't worry, I won't become one of those "but thats not genuine cooper s" type of
person)
:D

While we're on it, which cars had a contrasting roof colour, and what was available?
:D

I've seen Cooper S plates to say two different colours, as in british racing green and toga white roof etc. But I don't know about other models, De luxe maybe, I'm pretty sure no clubby had that, after all it was the 70s, 2-tone was out!

Cooper and Cooper S were the only ones with 2 tone in Oz, I'm pretty sure.. Deluxe, `matic and K never got it.
Dunno about the Clubby GT- did they have 2 tone?

Does anyone know when the union jack was started? Or can give the date of their earliest pic of such a great roof style, how many other cars are so customisible?
