He got 38.1 on the dyno with possibly part throttle, so it's not a performance advantage over even a small block a-series..

It IS a fuel efficient beast though 8)

Just being a matter if the cost of the conversion over what you have will pay itself back in the fuel savings..reliability helps though.

Funny that, when i start mine up and it idles it sounds like a mini, i think its got something to do with the vibration through the body???

Will be interested to see how it sounds when i actually drive it :?

I highly doubt that. Nothing against foreign engines in a mini just that british cars seem to have a particular style of sound. You see I think it's got a lot to do with the cam timing and overall the stroke, mini's are undersquare. Oversquare engines seem to run smoother and hum then vroom and in your case, as willy said 'vroom pssht!' Which is great and all but surely doesn't sound like a mini rally car from the '60s! My car is more of a ruuuammmmm rathar than vrooooom (haha can't explain noise in words!) But at idle, the mini is throaty and sounds somewhat beastial, injected jap engines don't, but in performance, regardless of sound they'll kill a mini, most of them anyway!

minis sound different because of the A-series having a 5 port head.
stroke shouldnt make a difference in how the exhaust sounds, but compression will.

hey GZE, what sorta power and drivability do you get from the sirion motor?? Fuel consumption??

well the guys covered most of it for you 8) , but the drivabilty is very smooth and torquey. you dont need to rev it much at all to get power

the fuel consuption may go out the window pretty soon though :D :D :D :D

there's also a bit of BLING in the works

My 2c worth..
If you really want to do a simple effective mod, with not too much to spend, why not turn your beasts into 4WD turbo powered Suzuki Alto Works cars. The alto is close enough to being same wheel base and track width. The Alto turbo makes supra's look like heaps of lead stuck to the pavement. A half cut with everything you will need will set you back around $1800 if you shop around.
I think a lightweight 4wd turbo mini would knock the socks off quite a few import rice burners out there, not that they don't already huh.
Just thought I might add this leittle bit of thought to help you think outside of the square.
I was going to do this conversion on a Fiat Bambina, but inverting the drive train and re-engineering the diff casing would be a bit too much to handle. I had already designed the new casting for this to happen, but put it all aside. If tonkins engineering were happy to work beside me to engineer the 4wd turbo bambina, I couldn't see an issue with doing the mini.

And, not very expensive either. I have found 3 half cuts of the Suzuki Alto Works here in Adelaide, they come with everything needed for the 4wd conversion, alll that is needed is the imagination to do the rest. Prop shaft and half shafts are easily altered. I have photos of all of my measurements somewhere if needed....

No problem, I will have a hunt through my hard drives over the next few nights and see where they might be. I took many picks of under the bonnet of the half cut with a tape measure just to get some rough measurements. It may take awhile to find the pics, I might have even deleted them off my drives and backed up on disc, but will definately have a look for you...
