well theres the cars that run on methanol or tolulene (sp?)

Methanol is very different.. Burns really nicely but you can't see it burn, making it very dangerous, teacher burnt some in chem yesterday! Methanol is derived from Ethanol, well it can be but there are other ways to get it.... Dam Chem is so good, better than physics, but only cos I got a crap teacher.... But anyways... Ethanol is pretty good too, PLS don't argue with me on this! Ethaol is much better than octane at them moment! I know so many of you mini people out there are afraid of it and don't knpow the facts so please don't argue!! (last time I made a mention of ethanol people were giving me crap about it!!)

there is a good reason to use N2O, you not only need the oxigen to burn more fuel but the nitogen as well to dampen the reaction inside the chamber
otherwise you damage the engine in no time

wouldnt meet emissions? would die from breathing the fumes?

Oh yeah about emmision, well I guess, If all perfectly burnt no issue. Except with chlorine some very dangerous things can be made.... But oxygen and nitrogen seem alright if done safely and mathematically.... I know it would be illegal, but that doesn't mean no one has tryed it. I mean talking about Pure oxygen engines is getting very close to how a rocket engine works so I think that's why no ones done it....

Not to mention the Chlorine gasses would corode your motor somthing fierce!!

Chlorine and petrol do not get on. Chlorine does not promote combustion like nitrous. Chlorine and powdered aluminium would make a good fuel, but a bit hard ot get in the carbs

Anyone for a sodium and water engine?

Nitrates are oxidising agents. And when combined with various hydrocarbons (fuels, such as Octane, the main ingredient in petrol... etc.) they form highly explosive materials, Potassium Nitrate is the oxidisng ingredient in black powder... You see we are doing Organic Chemistry at the moemnt in Chem. It's awesome, all about fuels and other hydrocarbons, alcohols etc. Tons on petroleum by-products and we jsut did 'Redox' reactions which involves various things including an explosive reactions. Best part of Chem I reckon! :D

There was a 1275 Moke in Lismore on N20 , went like the proverbial but it highlighted the weakness of mini diff's when given a big kick and grenaded one on the drag strip and a few more components at various times . The Moke was later sold and converted to a mid engined Suzuki GTI motor ......

n2o doesnt actually burn. it enhances the reaction and makes it more efficient (an incredible amount of fuels potential energy goes down the exhaust pipe). chlorine wouldnt do you any good because it has nothing to do with combustion. n2o works so good because it has 2 oxygen molecules. anything better and youll be going to raw oxygen or o2 and that highly explosive and stupidly hard to store safely and not to mention controlling a reaction.

basically n2o doesnt burn it just helps petrol burn
