Hello everyone

I have to get a new exhaust for my new engine and am unsure what i should run.

Engine is a rebuilt 1100 with a worked 12g295 head to go into a clubby van with a 1.5 su

So my question is what should i run in the way of extractors, exhaust and what is best suited to a van (as it is 4" longer)? I can easily get the extra length welded in.

the doc has recommended i look into getting a perry LCB, 1-3/4" pipe and an RC40 and weld 4" into the front pipe. Or get an aftermarket manifold and run a set of maniflow LCBs.

Or should I get:



Again welding in 4"

Which is the better option or can anyone think of a better one?

Blah! bugger the imported stuff, the local stuff can be had for a bargain and works a treat.
I am a fan of the Maniflows with the cast ends though...

Thanks for that hbr, my van has alot of sound deadening so it is fairly quiet.



Josh what are you running on Spiro? Seeing as it has a similar wheel base to the van?

I am going to look at some local stuff aswell but these seemed to be the best options to me

At the moment i am leaning towards the Minisport/Minispares Kit as I get everything I need. $595 seems pretty good to me can anyone think of a better kit or a better price!

Any other suggestions?

Call Graham Russell for his Supa Pipes, around $450 and they are proven to work better than most other offerings (as per The Mini Experience). They achieved the best hp figures on a 1098cc and produced a total of 95hp.

I've dynoed my 1330 with these vs maniflow medium LCBs and I'm sold on them even though he tells me not to bother and stick with my Maniflows

About the only thing better is a custom, tuned length and diameter, mandrel bend pipes like on Group N race cars, but then you are looking at $$$$

No he's not paying me. He only has a few sets left...

The article says it all, it contains many of the types you are talking about.

Beware there are alot of chinese copy maniflows out there. The easiest way to tell the difference between genuine and copies is the Y piece. The copies will have a Y piece that is vertical not horizontal in many cases, and the join between the 2 outer pipes come together in a join that is on top of eachother rather than a complete "Y" configuration. Before buying, compare pics to the real thing from maniflow's website. There are a few second hand sets out there too and... i might be selling mine if you need a set (the ones that look red hot in the picture on my rebuild thread )

any LCB extractors, into a 1inch and 7/8ths exhaust pipe, put whatever muffler you want on it, if you have extra money, put a flexi joint and or flanges.

Extractors - Maniflow Medium Bore LCB, or the GR Supa pipes
Exhaust - RC40 Twin box (don't use single box, noisier and make less power, and transmit more vibration to the shell!!)

Inlet manifold....Hmm, go for a mini spares, or a GR (watch clearance here), or there is a nice maniflow item too.

Take it all to an exhaust place you can trust to get it fitted properly, they can extend / fabricate the extra length you will need.

Unfortunately a custom kit is out of the question as I am pushed for funds.

I realise that everyone has differing opinions but overall is this my best option? (see below)

Carby: 1.5" SU

Inlet Manifold: Minispares/Minisport Water Cooled

Extractors: Maniflow Medium Bore LCB or Graham Russel's Supa pipes

Exhaust: RC40 Twin Box

Which is really the Minisport Kit but with a Twin Box?

The minisport kit has a freeflow exhaust manifold, not an LCB, but yes, it is the same apart from those two differences!!

The inlet manifold is actually a water heated one, not needed in Oz in MHO. Much simpler to locate a good second hand i.5" inlet or get a GR one.

Or you could go twins!!

Oh,

And stick to a 1 3/4 internal diameter system, anything larger is WAY too large. The RC40, maniflow extracvtors are this size.

What is called a 1-3/4 system here is 1-3/4 diameter OUTSIDE the pipe. Tube (which exhaust `pipe' is) is sized on OD, unlike water pipe etc.

Exhaust `pipe' is 1/16" (1.6mm) wall thickness, so the sizes nest nicely inside each other in 1/8" steps.
Metric sizes??? go wash yer mouth out..
