More begrudging people? What part of the first paragraph did you not understand about the fuel pump need minor work did you not understand? Unless you thought I would enter this into a billy cart race down a hill, it won't be driven. So, firstly, I won't find any mini for under $1000 as a get in, start and use it for work and back, now to did you pay money for that? That's just plain dumb Spaceboy. Or sorry, am I expected to pay another 500 to keep it at the $1000 budget for a fuel pump to have it start and drive to work? The only reason the mini won't be used in the first week or two is that the exhaust will also need to be changed because of it being tooo noisy.
So Spaceboy, being one of the people saying it isn't possible to get anything under $1000, and getting yours for free, I wonder what the hell your thinking? You see, what I think is... I see willy selling his "car" that resembles a garden pot with parts of the garden growing through it, and make a few coments only because I was directed to it when I put a wanted post up, and you come allong and bag a fantastic bargain that cost 200 more than he was looking for his. With very minimum work, this car is a cheap back and forth work car, that has potential to be very good without blowing a budget wide open. And I do know that with mini's, the pocket can be as deep as the ocean is wide, I have been there, done that for years. A mini that becomes a prize possesion also takes control of ones thoughts and actions, those that have spent thousands, will never recouperate the costs of owning something that will never be quite perfect, you will always want to keep doing more. But, on the other hand, if you have a reality check and realise that what you have is a mini that should drive great and look good without overdoing it, then I think you would have the perfect ballance of a machine that will provide every bit of enjoyment that it deserves. Sure you can go and blow 30k on your mini, but your blowing your money that you will never get back, its like a dark, and very deep money well ( I think it is at the end of every rainbow).
So did I find myself a bargain at $550 for a drivable mini? YES. I may not drive it home, but I certainly know I got myself a decent bargain, and especially the fact that there are no dents, rust is only surface rust, it has been garaged for 7 years, and let me say it once more, mechanically it is very good. cosmetically it is in a bracket of 65%, which is what I was looking for.
All I can say really is, watch this space for the updates of the rebuild. It will come up a treat, and still under $1000 when it is done. A: I have the paint and am a custom spray painter, B: I have the leather and an industrial machine C: I am a mechanic, but mechanically its fine.
I am the person you don't say "never" to, I will go out of my way to prove people wrong.
I was told I would never finish Standard 9, I pushed myself, and got dux for my matriculation, I was told I wouldn't stick at my mechanics trade, I did my trade and went on to do my mech. eng. So now I am told I can't get a mini as a driver to and for for work... lol.. watch me.
