Is this the part number for an original Mini radiator, circa 1971?

this one slipped through to the keeper without even a glance.

No one knows about this kind of marking on a radiator?

Aanton I don't think that is the original core as newcell were like natrad is today, they make replacement cores and brand them there own, they may of supplied the factory rads but they would not have a newcell part number on it :D

That AYG is definitely a factory number... they were made for BMC by Newcell.
I'm just not sure what year..

My Mini car Clinic book lists some, eg a AYG2386 was `75-78 998/1098 Mini.

Perhaps the number is to identify it as a correct replacement for the factory radiator?

Yes....I thought you guys would reply. Doesn't Morris 1100 know?

I too thought the AYG#### was an original part number.

I find this kind of thing rather interesting. :D

It's from my GT, and it totally paint stripped. That stuff burns on your skin! :shock:

It's awaiting some reconditioning paint :wink:

The `factory' (ie production) radiators in Oz Minis (except real early cars like Morris 850 etc) were Made in Oz. But not by `ze factory'.... :wink:

Here is what I have so far...

According to the BMC body repair guide (about 1966)
Morris 850 = AYG2030
Morris Mini Deluxe = AYA2077
Morris Cooper S 1275 = AYA2077
Morris Mini Van 850 = AYA2030
Morris Mini Van 998 = AYA2077
Morris Mini Moke = AYA2077

According to the Mini Kingdom catalogue (about 1998)
AYA2077 = Early Mini and Moke
AYA2244 = Late 998 Mini and Moke (this radiator has the top outlet on the opposite end)
AYG2386 = Late 1275

According to the Mini Car Clinic catalogue (about 1997)
AYA2077 = 850/998/1100 Morris Mini
AYG2386 = 998/1100 1975-1978

According to the Morris 1100 parts book. (just posted it for the info)
Morris 1100 = AYG2163
Morris 1100S = AYG2177

So I don't have the AYG2244 listed. (but I don't have all the books either!)

Huh ???
Been in Sydney for a few days - wife's family owns a pub in Surry Hills and they had a closed door family thing - last night is a haze.

About radiators - I dont know what numbers mean what, I just know that a mini radiator struggles at the best of times in hot weather. I do know that any mini needs a high flow water pump, a clean radiator and preferably one of the bigger capacity ones such as an Morris 1100 or the "tropical" type.

What does amaze me is that back in the sixties and seventies when every man and his kelpie had minis, overheating was not a major problem. I think that tells us that over the thirty or forty years minis have been on our roads that the circulatory systems of the mini has progessively filled up with rust, crud, caasting sand and that any overheating issue begins with a new radiator or a core clean, and any engine rebuild begins witha chemical dip of the head and the block.

Just doing a search and reviving an old thread. I have an old Australian Made Newcell Radiator AYA2129 plus has K66 hand stamped on it. 3 core.

It looks like the right fit for a Mini, can anyone confirm that it is what it is out of?

Sorry Phil, I don't have that AYA2129 number in anything. (waits for Doug to find it! 8) )
I wonder if there is a list of part numbers for cores?

An updated version from my various BMC parts books...

Mini
AYA2031 = Cooper
AYA2030 = Morris 850/Mini Minor/Mini 850 Van
AYA2077 = Deluxe
AYA2081 = Cooper S
AYG2244 = Clubman (no mention of GT?)

Morris 1100/1300/1500
ARA1629 = Morris 1100 UK
AYG2163 = Morris 1100
AYG2177 = Morris 1100S/Morris 1300 Automatic
AYH2548 = Morris 1500

Moke
AYA2077 = Early 998 Moke
AYK2214 = 1098 Moke
AYK2536 = Export Moke 1275

There will be more that I'm missing.

I have taken it to a local radiator shop, they're going to remove the tank and rod it out but warned the core may need replacing being so old.

It's 3 core. He measured the size of the core and according to his books in the Morris section it matches 65+ Deluxe and Van as far as core replacement.
