i know the late models have 998's, but not sure about the early models

My 1978 S had a factory fitted 1100

All the numbers matched.

Yes, 1974 Leyland Mini S did have an 1100.

No Aussie built Minis after 1975 had an 1100 factory fitted. They imported motors from the UK instead of making them here, to cut costs.

I know of the factory , when changing over from "Clubmans" to "Leyland minis", that there were quite a few "Miss-matches" direct from the factory threw that change-over period af about a year & a bit & you could have got all sorts of wiered combinations that were not quite "documented" as factory fitments,,, but none the less, were actually factory fitted,,,But i don`t know of any """late""" model "Leyland minis" "leyland Mini S"s, or "Leyland mini LS"s etc that actually had an engine number stamped on the body plate to be proof of matching body/engine numbers.

so it would be difficult to "Prove" but could be made to be shown "close enough" (as possibly only barely a Maybe).

altho,,, quite a few "Leyland mini SS"s were fitted with 1100 donks

But,,, i also know that there were some special orders placed to have differnt things fitted to please some dealers & customers & or govt agencies etc etc etc

so , anything is possible. just hard to prove as actual fact.

But then i don`t """KNOW""" diddly squat about """ALL""" what happened at the factory.

They were the 99H/ motors. many have since been fitted with 1098 cranks during reconditioning, I've got 2 like that here. 8)

was more so to be able to comply with ADR 27A which is why the 998 was introduced, with the add on effect of reduction in cost needed to comply the 1100

oh, did the early leylands/clubmans come with gold dot trim?

im used to the late models, and am familiar with them, but these early ones stump me!
no nice seatbelts, no hump in the middle of the back seat, i've seen a few different front seat types, no radio

1100's are a rare item in the UK, so thats why the later Clubman's with the import engines are 998's. Thought i'd add that, even though possibly useless in regards to your question!

So to make `em go up hills out here, we just add the good old Aussie 1098 crank & pistons when we do `em up..

Haha... back in my youth (60s) I used to mod 850 blocks and then drop 1098 crank/rods/pistons in.
Not heaps faster if left stock, but boy oh boy they climbed hills...

These days some blue slip inspection stations in NSW don't like you dropping an OLDER 1098 into a late Mini, as i found out- they can get anal about the numbers stamped on the (identical) block.
Voila- I present the 998/1098 stroker, same 99H/AJH/ prefix and all.
Fit a 202 head, if you must. 8)
BTW you can port the smoggy 998 heads out just as well and big as a 1098 can, water cores are the same, just a bit more port metal to grind away. :D
