Does anybody know if this would cause a problem? My Mini K has the two hooks on the bulkhead (below the dash) for mounting the heater. I'm not sure what the later heaters looked like in back and I was wondering if anybody knows if this would work without modification. Thanks for any help or advice you can give.

The later plastic heaters mount the same way as the old metal heaters that were fitted to Mokes (dunno about minis). They use the hooks on the firewall to mount. There are also two screws going up to the dash rail at the control panel.

The Rover shell I once owned had two pairs of hooks at different heights which suggests that there may be two sizes or mounting arrangements possible???

Hi,

I've done this conversion before.

If your Mini K has the clubman type heater with the controls over to the right side of the steering wheel, the heater itself should bolt straight in. You will need to use the demister ducts and tubes from a Mini fitted with the same type of heater - a Moke, an early Cooper or S or an import Mini. The Aussie clubman ones are a larger diameter and shaped all wrong to match up to the import heater.

The water hoses are on the opposite side to the existing heater. There are three ways around this:

1) The easiest way around this is to simply use longer heater hoses and pass them under the back of the heater. But you end up with some "interesting" bends, and I found the hoses were rubbing on the clutch pedal.

2) You can cut new holes in the firewall on the drivers side and pass the hoses through there, which makes it look tidy. I blanked off the air duct through the firewall with a plate cut to take the hoses, as I did not want to make irreversible mods to the car's firewall.

3) You can dismantle the heater and mount the heater matrix in the opposite way around. You will need to cut holes in the heater casing for the hose connections and blank off the old holes.

You will find the heater box will hang out under the switches a bit. This can be solved by using an import Mini's lower crash pad if it bothers you.

Thanks for the advice! I think I'm going to get that heater then. Where I'm at AC isn't important, but a heater sure is.
