Here is a question, it is a true story from about five years ago:
A bloke I know takes his Holden to the local Holden dealer for a Pink Slip. (NSW rego inspection) The young mechanic that was doing the inspections knocked back the car because it had no front seat belts.
Was the mechanic right or wrong?

He was right if the car has ever been fitted with seatbelts and they were removed . He's wrong if it never had seatbelts fitted in it's "life" . Last I knew you don't have to fit seatbelts to a car in NSW if it didn't have them new or retro fitted but once they have been fitted you cannot remove them , even if it didn't have them from the factory .

If the car has never been fitted with seatbelts it will need an engineers cert to be legal :D

yeah name and shame, that's horrible. I have never heard of an ADR for non reflective steering wheels, next he'll make you tae your reflective surfaces off your mirrors, because of the RULES

Some people got dropped harder than you at birth. NAME & SHAME!!

P.S. I can lend you a non reflective steering wheel for your rego inspection if you want :D

Why didn't Holden? 8)

It was an EH Holden and it never had seat belts.
The point is that the inspectors don't always know the rules.
Things like reversing lights and seat belts can confuse the fools! You need to know the rules yourself so that you can set them straight. They have books issued by the RTA that tell them all this stuff but unless you complain they will never look at the book.

Down in SA, I agree with you. friggin' Gestapo.

I have this very same SAAS steering wheel, never ever had probs getting it passed. Many cars in 60s particularly had nice chrome spokes. 8)

I would end up suggesting that the mini wheel is between your knees, if your looking there you have more to worry about like what's happening on the ROAD

Wow, thanks one and all. I think I now have a plan of attack -

1. Report him to RTA
2. Cover chrome with masking tape
3. Torch the garage (thanks Mini Mike)
4. Replace with stocko
5. Name and shame him (do we have a thread for this?)
6. Borrow non reflective wheel (thanks HPDesign, I may have to take you up on your offer, stay tuned)
7. Get hime a new rule book
8. Check ADR12 Glare reduction in field of view rule.

And the last but not least - NEVER EVER SPEND ANOTHER CENT AT HIS GARAGE

When will these people learn that we are NOT ANIMALS. . . . we are HUMAN BEINGS

NAV has a fake wooden wheel with chrome spokes and has passed rego inspections in 3 different states, NSW, ACT and QLD with the same wheel. This wheel has been round a while.
The wheel was given to me but a good mate who had it on 2 different minis for a total of about 5 pink slip inspections in Coffs Harbour.

Go back and tell him he's dreaming and to read the rules again.

EDIT: looking at your pic my wheel is almost identical with the exception that you have holes and mine has a slot cut from the hub to the rim.
