Hey guys i probably already know the answer(no) but is there anyone out there that makes a
plenum for a single dellorto DHLA or Weber DCOE (Same body)? I wanna do a S/C blow through
setup so it will have to handle at least 10psi.

I miss not having access to a welder any being 10hours away from my old man who is a fitter and turner.
Anyway If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

Isaac

Here is a pic of the thing im kind of looking for this is off Jukka Harkola's turbo mini

Here is a link to his web site if anyone wants a look:

Here's one I made, JUST fits between firewall and carb.
Not tried it yet...

Hey doc,

That plenum looks great. I currently dont have access to build one of my own. :(
Also thats a wild looking accelerator linkage your dellorto has there.

Cheers,
Isaac

This box came about when I was going to put a Dellorto 40DHLA on the wife's 1293 but I wanted to shut it up...
My original intention was to run a cold air feed pipe to the airbox, with a bigass pod filter on it. In the meantime I thought buggerit, just made the intake bigger (70mm) and threw this Finer Filter sock on.

One day.... I might even try it.

It's a pretty neat fit, a bonnet hinge has to come off first to slide it in there  .
There's about 10mm clearance to the body, with a stock angle Redline manifold.
Inside, there's a couple of my homemade stubstacks.

Any standard fitment webber plenum type boxes available ? I was once looking at using the air cleaner alloy box off a marina to turbo a mini , for those that don't know , the marina (well , some of them anyway) had a cast alloyhousing that bolted onto the back of the SU and ran horizontally to one side where they fitted a normal air cleaner , probably swiped from some other model . The alloy part is similarish to the plenum chamber on the metro turbo only side on with a circular collar on the top . Don't know if it wass able to handle the pressure either though . Any Euro cars that had side draft webbers or delorto's on them have a similar setup ?

Could hack an Alfa one in half, but they are pretty wide.

Yeah as with both the plenums above the intake pipe is on the passenger side (radiator end of the motor)
I want mine to have its intake on the other side it will make the pluming with an intercooler simplier and shorter
an there is more room above the clutch housing than above the water pump.

I think i'll mock one up out of cardboard do some tech drawings of it on CAD.
Then find an engineering shop that will make it for me for a good price.
It worked for my Honda brake adaptors ;) (got them high pressure water cut).

There are two that I know of:

M.E.D. in the UK -
see http://www.med-engineering.co.uk/produc ... ang_id=237

This will be out of most people's price range, and the dimensions of the air filter is so big you need to run a small manifold AND cut into the firewall - not for the faint-hearted.

A better design, which is what I will be getting (grin) is Han's weber box. He's an engineer who works with Link Automotive. Call Link and get details - (03) 9873-3874. If you want details on pictures and prices, I'll ask him and see if he wants to publicise it.

Cheers.

Hi Simon,

That one made by M.E.D just looks like an air filter to me. I need a box that can handle
atleast 10psi only has one inlet about 50mm dia and the only outlets are for the carby's venturies
(same size as the chokes 32mm in my case this helps with the natural venturi effect),
also the vent for the idle circuit and any take offs for boost references. Also for maximum preformance
the box should have a volume between 1 and 1.5 times the engines displacement.
The volume information is from a book called "Maximum boost" by Corky Bell
which i dont have but would really like a copy.

Just another question has anyone on here mounted a SC12 at the front of the motor?

I haven't had a good look at how much room i have between the alternator and the bonet.
I also first thought it would be hard to lower the alternator but thinking about it now all i would have to do
is make a new alternator bracket the bolts to the block and make an adaptor the joins onto the water pump mount and hangs the required amount lower.
I don't know if i would have to alter the alternator tension bracket this would probably depend on how much lower the alternator sits.

Anyone lowered their alternator on here?

Isaac

sorry but i have to ask this, its not making fun of anyone, how come poeple mount their blowers infront, and have it blowing straight air blown into a carby, this extra pressure make its hard for the fuel pump, does it not?

and that would mean at times an uneven mixture,

as monkey magic said it " are we all right, or are we all wrong"

I have raised mine and make sure you use the 3 mounting points otherwise it jumps around and chews belts. I tried to mount mine like the RX7/modern cars with only 2 but the water pump mount is not stiff enough, had to re-fit the std support plate on the front of the engine.

The only advantage of a blow-through set-up is that you can run an intercooler. If you use a rootes style blower I reckon a weber would be bettter than an SU due to the pulses for a suck-through. Can't use intercooler on suck through as it becomes a bomb if the engine backfires apparently

i had a look at that pic, looks like air goes through an intercooler, so what does that do then,
