has anyone fitted any aftermarket door locks to their mini's ? (clubmans if it makes a diff)

cos ill be looking into doing it soon and was curious what people recomended

have you seen mr. beans door lock thats the go check it out...

On an earlier mini I thought of using a slipbolt type deal in the rear of the door jamb going into the door below the latch mechanism , all hiden and operated by a solenoid from a central locking kit . Made some rough brackets and pivots , it should work but I didn't have access to the tools to make it all work . Might revive that project though for the next project as it's got two left hand door handles so there's no key hole in the drivers door and it can't be locked from the outside ......

no one else knows of any other locks ? or are solex the only universal lock making company ?

ive had solex locks on the celica and ive owned it for nearly 2 years, flush the lock hole with wd40 every month and they work fine, ive have had the celica out on the road for 2 months and never had a prob. the only prob i have found is the little plastic thing that holds the rod, that slips in be hind the lock breaks, slam that door to hard and the rod falls out from be hind the lock, if this happends while your locked out you might have to cut the small bolt to your FQ windows,

i have solved this problem though, there to small though to be made fun of about an unoriginal part

not sure what year but link auto change the locks to a late model toyota camry door lock.
a friend of mine had it done but thats all i know

not for central locking... but for matching door/boot/ignition locks..

Just get them keyed alike , they are the same type of key , take astro to a locksmith and get them to redo the locks , or pull them apart and do them yourself . Mini's use very budget lock internals , pull the little doovers out and if you've got enough old locks you can use the bits to make all of them the same as your ignition switch .

Should do , basically a conventional lock has a series of springs with different length posts with cone tops attached to them , when the right key goes in , the bases of all the posts line up and allow it to turn . Early mini locks (possibly clubman ones too , don't know) have little "gates" cut out of metal that are spring loaded , similar deal though , when the right key's used the gate bottoms line up and it can turn . Just a matter of getting the right gates to make all your locks the same . I learnt to do them when we had a run of people trying to break into mini's , there were rumours around that you could open a mini by pushing down hard on the handle and the lock would shear off and the door open , no , the handle breaks off and the poor owner has to get the lock bits out of the old handle and redo it in the new one ....
