I'd say it would be too much work putting tappet covers and blocking up the fuel pump hole to fake an 'S' motor. When looking at an 'S' motor, I don't look at the engine number.

I have got a block, but used the crank and rods in an 1100s block a few years ago.

I got 9F/SA/Y 47077. Sadly the car it came from originally was lost in a fire, luckily for me the engine was out being rebuilt at the time of the fire, so I bought it off the owner as they no longer had a car to put it in. I've heard rumors of a bloke out near Gawler who has a few blocks and many more non-S 1275's just sitting around....

I've got 3 Cooper S blocks including one in my race car that has just broken the centre main bearing out of it.

You can now run 1100S blocks in Group N Historics. It was changed a few years back cause the genuine Cooper S blocks are getting too hard to find decent ones. You have to put the tappet covers onto the block to make it look to be Cooper S to try and keep the look correct for the period. (I've got four 1100S blocks).

That is the sort of thing that helped me make up my mind 6 years ago not to ever give any more money to CAMS again.
The only way to win is to cut of their supply of cash.

There were approx 45000 Cooper 'S' motors of all capacities, (970,1071,1275) made.
Of these 45000 motors about 9000 1275 motors ended up originally in OZ in MK1, MK2 and Clubman GT cars.
(Did some sums from Parnell's data) How many are left? Who knows.

OK Ron....now I want you to subtract the overbored, beyond saving, rods through the block, smashed cars etc from the approx 45000 Cooper 'S' motors or even the just the 9000 1275 motors that ended up originally in OZ....no hurry

Not trying to guess how many are left, just to give a starting point for the original number. It's pretty much a case of the 25000 OZ built Cooper'S' cars remaining of the 7500 - 8000 cars made.

Regards
RonR
