Have you connected the earth strap from the clutch housing to the body?

It's no woder it won't start, look at the state of the wiring...... Seriously, before you go and try and start it, you need to make sure it isn't gonna strat letting the smoke out of the wires.
What you will find though is that the starter is either not getting power or it is jammed. My guess is the previous. The selimoid is clicking so you are getting juice from the ignition to the selinoid and it is making the selinoid do what it should. So you have an issue with the right side of the selinoid to the starter. It is either not got a great connection, or not connected to the starter. I take it the starter is a known entity and does actually work?

One last thought.... is your battery charged? Selinoid will fire but if there is not enough juice in the go box, then it won't spin the starter.....

Goodluck, the next owner will like it much better if it is running prior to sale.

Cheers
Aaron

if your battery is not flat, then i would change the starter solenoid. (circled)

The most probable problem is that the battery terminals are either dirty or poorly connected. Give the terminals and connections a wash with a soution of bicarb or soda, dry them and then coat everything with vaseline. Do up the connection (earth and main feed on the battery) and before you do anything else check that the battery has sufficient water in it to cover the plates.

Then as sports850 suggests - check that earth strap from the clutch housing to the body is connected.

Then give it a try - then engine should turn over - if it starts then great - back to commanding the gothic empire - if not its a process of elimination - have you spark at the splug leads etc

That is your problem! You have the solenoid hooked up like a normal mini but you have the A+ starter. You need to do a bit of swapping of wires or...
Fit your old starter.

On mine the white/red is the switched power to the solonoid from the ignition.

So the order on the solonoid is:
Power from battery, switched power to engage solonoid, power to the starter.

So when then the white/red is active the solonoid closes and power goes to the starter and it turns over. If you have ignition light with the ignition in the off position you are grounding unswtiched power, in otherwords its wrong.

As I said that is the case for my 1971 Moke, dont know about your specific model.

Terminology is confusing here - the main feed heavy cable goes to the in side of the solenoid. It has a raising and falling bridge thingo inside it. Then on the other side on the bridge thingo, a big lead goes to the starter motor - only one wire (big black bugger) goes to the starter.

On the solenoid you will have a couple of spade type terminals. The big one as you said has the thick wire with red stripe on it. This is power that raises the bridge so that the other side that runs down to the starter motor has electricicity. The other smaller leads feed auxillary devices (radios etc ) when the ignition is switched on.

The in side of the solenoid may also have a number of main feed add - ons - various leads that go to relays, driving lights etc.

One of the wires that has power must go to the positive side of the coil and from the negative side of the coil it goes to the distributor - the coil will be marked positive and negative.

You have done a great job to here but all this is high detail workfrom here on in - the engine will not start unless unless all the systems are properly connected - check everything systematically
