I am nearing the completion of my body work. I am about to turn my attention to the engine. I was planning to do a hot 1100, but then I found it was going to be quite expensive. If i do go down the hot 1100 route I will more than likely need disc brakes. Then I thought if I am am going to have to get disc brakes I might aswell just do up a 1275 in the first place. So this leads me to my point. What roughly would a later model half cut cost? I could just put a set of rings and seals in it and I would have a better more reliable set up than an overworked 1100 with a camira/honda brake conversion. whether I have a 1275 or a 1100 means little to me but the brakes are definatly on my to do list. I just reakon having crap brakes will really get to me over time and I would probly sell it or end up hating and neglecting it. Any Ideas/opinions will be greatly appreciated.

i beleive 1275 frontcuts are $5,500

Frontcuts vary in price depending on the accessories/options bolted to it, and other factors

-Air con...
-Carby, Single point injection, or multi point injection...
-Quality of the panels..
-Type of dashboard...
-Auto or manual...
-Year model / mileage...
-Headlight type...
-Grille type..
etc etc ....

You *could* get a 1275 frontcut for under 5 grand with minimal options on it, or spend less by only getting what you need.

HOWEVER, buying a complete frontcut will save you money in the long run (if you eventually use everything) because he didnt have to possibly add the cost of paying one of his workers to disassemble the frontcut into individual items.

Also the advantage of a front-cut is you have all the ga-zillion brackets, bolts, washers etc you need included and you can see exactly where they go. Generally any bits you don't want to keep (eg: dash or Air Con) can be sold off easily.

I was silly enough to buy all the bits separately. Wish I hadn't done that.

i got my a+,disk's and a set of superlights all fitted etc for $3000, so i wouldnt buy a halfcut. considering that the engine from a halfcut isnt reconditioned plus the brakes etc $5000 seem's a bit steep to me. just my opinion

Yeah, I've always wondered why Mini half-cust are so expensive. There is a lot of high performance half cuts (Nissan, Toyota, Honda etc) that would probably have more worldwide demand, but are cheaper. I guess Mini ones must be harder to get in Japan.

You need to weigh up what you actually want , if you want a late model injected , auto air conditioned mini or just a rebuilt 1275 with disc etc , If you want the whole box and dice then the half cut with everything (management comp etc , all the brackets and other crap you'll need) is the way to go . If you just want a 1275 then maybe not . Do a search for the people here who have done the conversion with everything from the front cut , Doogie (2S's and a clubman) springs to mind with his Auto etc clubman , very tidy conversion from the pics I've seen . There's a few others on here as well . Remember , with the front cut you get dash etc as well (normally) so can dress up the interior a bit too for the price .

well sorted drums will pull up a worked 1100, just dont put standard shoes on, they really suck, get them redone with a modern compound at a brake place, or minisport have them pretty cheap.

rover frontcuts are a great idea, but i agree about the price, i would think minis are more abundant than other japanese performance vehicles for which you can get frontcuts for half the price.

but i guess theres more demand for mini stuff?

$5500 for a mini front cut wouldn't tempt me in the slightest. Ring some other front cut suppliers (not in Adeliade) and see if they can get one shipped to you.

I find it insluting that you can buy a GTR Skyline/EVO Lancer/WRX front cut for less than $5500.

I cannot justify that price. I have no want or need for air-con or fuel injection etc etc. I have other late model cars that have all that stuff. My main concern is I just want it to stop,manly so I dont kill myself or anyone else while hooning. It doesnt really even have to be fast, just not boring or unsafe.

These late model front cuts seem all good, but unfortunatley you can't drive them to see what they are like, the one i bought off a ausmini member that was bought into the country by the usual source has bitten me on the arse BIG time, after doing only 4,000 klms in it, it has now stuffed the gearbox & has no drive at all, only reverse gear, the gearbox has played up on it ever since i installed it in the car, now im up for a expensive gearbox overhaul. What im saying is just be careful when buying one.
