Ahhhhh, what it is to be a bastard. QLD road rules allow a darkest tint rating of T35. That's how I ended up with my canary ages ago. Every window except the back windscreen had T35 stickers applied. Coz they couldnt find a sticker they defected the car.

The fact that it was T20 all the way round missed their attention LMFAO.

The "T" rating stands for the amount of visible light transmitted as a percentage. T75 is only light tinting allowing a lot of light through, and T35, is the darkest (cough cough, LEGAL) tint available. I mean if ya had yer car done professionally, and had the stickers on there, some little fairies could slap another T35 over the top, which takes it to roughly T20.

Oh yeah, and the maximum REFLECTIVITY allowed in automotive tint is 10%. That really reflective crap ya see is only meant for houses.

Tinting of the front windscreen AT ALL is illegal in all states. The only thing allowed is the tinted band which is part of manufacture. Lots of new crapanese, and crapean cars, come out without a tinted band.

My bro-in-law owns a security business in Qld and does money pickups from business and takes it to the bank for them. He has a station wagon with only 10% transmission (illegal natually  ) cause he didn't want people to see what he had on board???

He goes plain clothes and carries the money in a grotty old sports bag. The black windows probaly attract the most attention

I had my GT Legacy wagon done a while ago. T35. Lots and lots of glass. Was $200ish from memory. And we really need it hear in the sunshine/smart state.

Going on from what Wombat was saying. If you carry medicines/cigarettes or anything deamed likely to be stolen you can get this tint you can't even see through. Serves a duel purpose. Actually minimises crooks being able get at stuff inside when they smash the windows. Soooo.... get that done and tell Cunstable Knob that you are a plain clothes rent-a-cop doing money deliveries.

Thats strange, I just had front and rear windscreens fitted by Obriens, and they supplied the front screen, it has a tinted band at the top, but the whole window is tinted. its a light tint, but its definitley tinted.. :?

Actually in NSW if your car is pre-94 you can actually go quite dark.. they need to prove that your car was tinted AFTER 94 to ping you......

bit hard to get my 98 Commodore black tinted, but,,,,,,,,

Theoretically you could tint to the darkest allowed in your build year.....

Cheers

Guys (& Gals),

Do it yourself. The secret is plenty of soapy water and a felt squeegee. I used to apply vinyls for a living and s*^y myself the first time - reminded me what it was like as a virgin!. Get some cheap stuff and have a practice first if you want. Buy the tinting vinyl and in a CLEAN place, cut overlarge pattern, remove backing paper and apply plenty of soapy water - the lid off a rum bottle would be a good measure - use 2. The electrostatic charge will attract dust if the area is not clean and this will give 'bubbles'. The soap neutralises the glue. Float the vinyl onto the glass and squeegee the water out working from the middle. If you leave a little 'overhang', this can be trimmed off when the tint is in place (but use a sharp knife). It will take a couple of days to completely dry out and you should give a couple more squeegees after a couple of hours. It's not that difficult and you'll feel very proud of your work at the end.

Be brave - have a go!

I want to do my glass, since it's out of the car. Where do you buy the film from?

Spathi, the light tint throughout the glass is called Anti-sun. Even the side and rear windows of most cars have it. Been around for years. If you have a look at the window tint stickers on some car's it may even state "T35 on Antisun". Anti-sun gives it a light greenish tint.

I used to work at O'Briens, but we never did tinting back then.

if you want to be crafty you can go to a car shop eg autobarn, supercheap, repco, and you can buy tint from about 90% visibility to limo tint wich is only 5% visibility and just aply it yourself. i done it on my oder car and it is pretty easy. just need alot of windex to slide the tint around and that will help it not 2 bubble.
