Hi,
I’m just wondering if its possible to be able to fit a vtec B16A2 engine into a standard roundnose with 10’’ wheels. Ive researched on the internet a bit and the cars look great, but im not keen on the clubby front or a lengthened front. I would probably fit a fibreglass flip front and miglia arches, so the width of the car shouldn’t be a problem. Ive heard there is an Allspeed subframe that fits with mini tracking, suspension and brakes? does this exist?

Also does anyone know the laws about engine transplants in QLD? Just getting some info before I decide what to do?

Thx for your help.

Not sure if it can be done without some sort of extention for a roundy or majour firewall mods, most aussie engineers will want you to have ventilated rotors on the front as a minimum, some engineers want ventilated discs front and back.

Now i have heard of some ventilated 7.2inch discs that fit under certain 10inch wheels, but im no expert on these. Calipers are not cheap for these discs too.

biggest problem you'll run in to is the problem with putting "adequite brakes" under your 10's because theirs really no brakes that are available to you, theat suit the performance increase of the motor.

I would recommend not to do it with the 10's unless you can find vented calipers with a large clamping force. Because you won't be able to stop quickly.

The B16a in a roundie requires cutting and welding galore, and even an extension in track and bonnet length. In QLD it is meant to be easier to get cars engineered than in NSW & ACT and even SA so Speak to an enginner about what he would be happy with enginnering. If you can get your engineer to sign off on 10's then theirs no rason by law you can't put 10's on you project as long as an engineer is willing to say it's safe

No extention in track is required. Length in a round nose=Yes

Have a look in the latest Mini World on page 52, there is a Mini with a B18C6 , it would be a similar size to what you are thinking. It only just fits but body has been lengthened by 90mm. Me personally, I don't think it's going to fit nicely, maybe a BFH to the firewall in a few spots might squeeze it?

As far as 10" wheels with brakes go, check the weight of the car when it's done, if it's the same as STD (not likely) then it shouldn't be an issue but I would suggest some 4 pots with vented rotors turned to suit.

Cheers

Daniel

There is a increase in weight with the Honda converson of about 80-100 kilo's as for the brakes many years ago you could get ventilated 7.5 inch S/T brakes and 4 spots that would fit inside 10 inch wheels, ther was set floating around the super mini boys for years, kept getting sold but never fitted, I can if you want next week make inquiries as to who ended up with them or your other alternative is to get some KAD ones, not cheap though

Personally i think 10's will be fine. I have metro turbo ventillated discs machined down to 7.9 inch. Iam using minisport 4 pot callipers with mintex carbon metallic pads. The callipers fit under alloys but not steels. cost for callipers was £350.

These brakes work very well, especially with the yokohama A032R tyres.

kad and minspares also make 4 pot callipers of this size. Minispares being the cheapest.

Hope this info helps

cheers

Remember also that smaller wheels and brakes will result in lower unsprung weight, which will give the suspension and bearings an easier time. Also the lower weight of wheels will make accelerating and decelerating easier. you get a nicer ride with taller tyre walls also.

Vtec into standard roundnose has been done.
search the forums at www.16vminiclub.co.uk.

cheers

I think you need to spend some time doing your homework.....

There are plenty of brake options if you look.

I fitted vented disks from a jap car under my contessa rims. 210mm dia approx no turning down the outside dia either

Thanks for your help
ill probs go the 7.9" cut down discs with KAD or minisport 4 pots as brakes

Got the idea of a vtec on tens from miniworld.

And one last thing
would it be best to get a DOHC vtec from japan as a half cut and then fit the engine with a subframe pre made like from allspeed engineering

thanks
