dont expect them to be helpfull or friendly... we are on the gold coast, and have 3 minis. We arent good enough for them.. its kind of like www.stuffyoldgeezer.com
if you can even get them to acknoledge you exist you will be doing better than us.

Yeah the Mini Owners Club of Queensland can jam it when my club renewal comes round. Cause I live in Cairns and will never attend a club meeting they would not allow me to run my car on club rego. Well done guys.

As far as my experience with MOCQ they've been pretty good.. they have a fair few meets a month mainly around the brisbane/south side area which have always been a good run.. They have however recently dropped their cams affil. though.
I'm not quite sure what everyone else is expecting from a club, as with most things you only get from it what you put in

pretty hard to put something into a club that wont even comunicate with you... after numerous emails to the higher ranking committee people we still have never had a single response..also found a phone number for the club and from there was given another number which when you ring it they wont let you talk to anyone about the club...
we did use the clubs website when we were looking for a mini. when we went and looked at one, the guy who was a member said they were stuck up and arrogant, and that he wouldnt be renewing cos they hardly spoke to him.
Only positive is that the miniman (mad matt) is associated with them in some way.. he is a top bloke. he has gone out of his way to help us. you will find him on here..

PS... how local is a club thats on your PC in your own home.. ausmini has it all, if you want to meet mini nutters in your area send them a pm

Well like most Clubs there are the members and one members that will never be happy and those that will praise the Clubs no end.

Hanra, why would you want club plates when you can't attend a club event? If you had them you, where would you use the car? In Vic the idea of the Club Permit Scheme is so that you can drive your car on a Club event, you can't just drive it anywhere you like, anytime you like. Maybe it's different in Qld.

I live in Melbourne as you all know, and have relatives in Qld. I travel to Qld several times a year, and have done since the beginning of the Qld. Mini Owners Club. I have found them to be a very helpful and friendly group. I offer my services to help set up at some of their events when I attend and I find that they are most appreciative. You can't expect to get along with 100% of all of a Clubs members or Mini people for that matter. I don't know all 700 members of our Club but I try and make myself known to as many Mini friendly people that I can. Whether they be club members or not.

I am very surprised that danidad had so much trouble contacting the Club and unfortunately it doesn't sound good. Not sure what to think of that.

I would suggest to anyone wanting to join a Club to try it yourself and make your own decisions. What doesn't make one person happy will maybe work out for another. I have made lots of really good friends and acquaintances since joing the VMCI about 6 years ago and wouldn't give it up for anything.

thats my cents worth anyway.

I've been in the MOCQ for 2 years since I bought the car and reckon its worth 45 bucks a year for the magazine. It's glossy and has some interesting stories in it.

I contacted them and said I'd do their website for them but never really got any decent response. I'm not a professional designer by any means but I reckon the site as it stands is a POS and I could do a lot better job. But if they don't want my voluntary help then thats cool. I'm busy enough as it is.

In their defense I can see why the don't allow club rego for just anybody. There is no real reward for the people who do all the organising if a heap of people just join up so that they can run club rego and not contribute anything to the club other than the membership. The whole point of a 'club' is that you get interaction between a group. Just paying a membership fee so you can have club plates is hardly in the spirit of things. I still think they need to cater for these people in some way though... there should be a 'silent' membership option or something.

All these issue plague lots of car clubs... my mate has just started and EJ/EH club in Qld and they've got the same sorta problems.

I reckon the real problem with the club is that its hard to contact people and get information. If this improved it would be fine. At the moment I reckon the best way to get info about the club is to go to one of the monthly meetings and speak to people face to face. Get their contact details and then start calling/emailing them. If you've spoken in person before you'll get a better response.

dewey

PS: I really wanna get some gold coasters together and go for some drives or swap some information and stories etc. We should go for a BBQ down at broadbeach or burleigh and have a drive some time soon!!! There's a few mini's on the coast.... we should just start doing our own runs and organising our own stuff. I know the toowoomba area does their own thing but gets to do so under the club banner.

Pity, I was up there two weekends ago. Could have met up with you guys.

Maybe you should consider attending the MOCQ Christmas Dinner. I usually always attend but unfortunately this year The Mini Experience new OZ mag is having it's launch down here in Melbourne on the same day.

It will be the first christmas lunch I have missed up there.

us qld'ers maybe just need to get together and do our own thing. find a central location, and see if we can't have a day/w-end where we can get some serious work done on our beasts. shared labour/knowledge etc. there seems to be a lot of broken Minis around Brisbane and the coasts, mine included

Dewey, i took over the website for the mini car club of NSW. While not a full time web designer i certainly think it scrubs up ok. The NSW club would not allow me to take over until they got to know me and knew that i wasn't going to be a flash in the pan type guy. I am not saying you are but i am thinking that they may have the same thoughts. I just started attending meetings more and telling thiem it needed to be fixed and they let me do it. I also showed them a design before they took me up. May be worth a go.
Clubs always have problems finding people with the correct skill sets to fill important jobs an website design is a pretty high skill set to achieve. I tried not to tell tell the previous designer he did a bad job because that would get there back up, as you would expect when some one tells you your crap. I think you should persist with trying to get it, as you said they need it,.

Cheers

Aaron
