As for last year of production I've read 1981 , 1982 and 1984 , all in reputable books so not sure . Most ex-BLMC dealers I've spoken too said Leyland was advertising the moke still to the start of 1984 in their dealer materials but they weren't available when they tried to order them .

Mine's a Feb 1982 compliance plate model AKPPB19Y. That number doesn't appear in most model lists. I believe it was an 1100 originally.

I think 1982 was the last year of Australian complianced Mokes. All the manufacturing tooling was then shipped to Portugal where Moke production continued for some time.

The Gal mokes were spray galvanised, not dipped, so they are not unbeatably rust resistant. The quality depended on the guy spraying it on the day.

Unfortunately the primer used over the gal wasn't real good, meaning the paint would peel off when you used a pressure washer on them. :(

EDIT: Not all gal mokes suffered this problem, but some did.

Not when you buy the moke but you sure do when you try to figure out which chewed wire is which  . I couldn't believe the damage rats had done to a mini matics wiring I had years ago ....

does anyone know of anyone who has bought a moke new
and kept it since?
everyone seems to have moke memories
when 'we were mindless fearless kids'
but none of them had the guts to keep em...

Yes, I know a guy who bought a brown 72 Export new and still has it. I also know a guy who bought a Yellow 82 Californian new, but sold it just recently.
