Guys..... drove Slidey for a couple of hours today and when i returned to put him to bed, i lifted the bonnet and there was a fine wisp of smoke or steam eminating from the left carb air filter.................. i was thinking that maybe there was some excess oil from the breather pipe connected to the rocker cover being pushed through??????

Any ideas :?

Duc..... couldn't smell an odour... it was wafting from the top of the air filter...... i thought a hose or something might have been resting against something hot..... checked all the hoses and they were fine.....

if you couldnt smell anything (if you tried to)
then perhaps it is steam hmmm
whereabouts was it coming from:
the airfilter area, or the actual inlet hole?

hmmm.
yeh youre right in that perhaps the rocker cover is pushing alot of steam
into the air filter
i reckon the steam is from the combustion process, and the outlet valves are doing something (maybe something theyre not supposed to be doing)

im no expert, but i heard sometimes people get a mayo(emulsification of oil and water) inside their rocker covers due to condensation
i think the exhaust gases are not going to the exhaust pipes, maybe some are getting out through the valve stem holes and to the cover.
i am not certain with the head of an engine, i have only seen the rockers once, sorry

If the float level in that carb is a tad high, it will percolate fuel into the manifold when hot and stopped. But I reckon you would smell that.. :?

indeed, a good smattering of bling in there will look tops.

would it ve fair to say clubmans would run a few degrees cooler than roundies 'cos of the extra space? i'm not used to looking in the front of a roundy, but i noticed how tight the fit was with that bloke's one yesterday at the servo. would make reaching those hard to reach places even more difficult!

I think Clubbies run hotter, from hauling the extra weight and pushing more air out of the way.. 8)

Don't get yer knickers in a knot-- we like (and own) Clubbies too!
Probably not much weight difference... in fact a dry Clubbie may be lighter than a wet roundnose.

I see Slidey has a couple of nice screwdriver holders.... it's the best part about putting a Cooper S head on a 9 stud 1100S motor - you can put your screwdrivers in the extra holes and they'll never fall down!
