Mick, can you confirm the 10th spot was a V8 Valiant..??

Unfortunately the RCN photocopy I have reports on the 4 classes individually. The VC Valiant autos finished one-two in Class D. The Eifel Towers Mtrs Nougher/O'Keefe car touched 116 MPH for a best lap of 3:16 completing 124 laps (wining Minis did 130!). Second was Advanx Gosford Motor Service Boddenberg/Cooke with 122 laps.

I love the ..."Valiants amazed with their continued stopping, reliable running and reasonably good handling"

Class B...cars $1801 to $2040....had four Coopers???? and they came in 1,2,3......these must have been 997/998?? and still available at the same time as the Cooper S (Class C $2041 to $2700)....spose they could just be still eligible to race after first competing in earlier races.. :?

I never went to Bathurst but my most vivid memory from watching on TV was the minis nose to tail running down conrod. If I recall they did it to increase the top speed as the effect was of a long car. When I say nose to tail they were literally touching each other I believe. Any photos of this around? The guys to get in touch with would be would be photographers of that period, Ray Berghouse being one I recall and Bill Forsythe being another. I bet Max Stahl still has heaps of photos from RCN.

Yes Chris and with there incredible brakes (not!) it wasn't uncommon for them to use a cooperative Falcon or other larger car in later years to help them slow down into Murrays (bigger cars would be faster on the straight but then the Mini could carry more speed into the turn..)

take a moment to think about Lance J Ruting who took the famous shot of the Mini completely sideways in Forests Elbow.........Alan Cameron #56

The Lance J Ruting Photographic Collection is now available on line from David Blanch's Autopics. This is a wonderful historical resource - Lance J Ruting and David Blanch had taken photographs at many Australian race meetings 1964 - 1996. This archive of Australian Motor racing photographs is a fantastic resource to help you verify the competition history, and 'period presentation' of your 'historic' car.

DH PHOTO Darren Hodgson's Motorsport photography. Darren is an accredited CAMS Photographer, and takes pictures at many NSW Club motorsport and race events.

Terrific Bathurst website:

http://www.maelstromcreations.com/bathu ... istory.php

click on the year and up pops all the placings....just be aware that there are a few typos in there....some odd names for drivers.. :?

Still looking for the Easter Meetings results.....if anyone comes across those....post it here!! :D ...thinks....there is that Bathurst Light car Club site....

Believe it or Not...the truth is stranger than fiction!! The VeeDubs went alright in their day too!! I have since found out that this site contains some errors further up....so don't take it as gospel.
