I am taking the motor out of the car to repaint the engine bay and during the lift out process oil was leaking out of the middle exhaust outlet while lifting the motor out, any ideas why, not good I assume and should I look at motor rebuild while it is out (it did blow some blue/white smoke when starting).

It could be the Rocker Cover Gasket....oil has just collected in that area

Probably coming from the rocker cover gasket (ie not doing its job).

Because they are prime source of dribbling oil....when it comes out it usually dribbles down.....the exhaust ports are underneath the rocker cover.

Are you saying the oil came out of the exhaust port :?: Was it clean oil :?:

Well....OK...could be a stuck valve or worn guide...maybe you should lift the head whilst the engine is out.

But to come out the exhaust port wouldn't it need to be running to create the vacuum to pull it through the seals, but when it's running the oil gets burnt. But you did say it was blowing blue smoke so that's definitely a pissibolity. I don't like smoking mini's, so I'd do a rebuild on it. New valve stem seals would probably fix all this. But then after that it's piston rings which isn't cheap as that and engine dismantle job, but better done before other things are had it too, and I guess while your at it an overbore could be done, it goes on and on. Try valve stem seals first, where in Adelaide are you located?

Nah, my beast isn't back on the road yet, just finished rubbing back the body, now in primer ready for high fill primer. Hope to have top coat paint on over the next few weeks.
Plans are 1275, twin tanks, disc brakes, rover 1/2 leather front and rear sets, centre exhaust with DTM outlet, 12*5 Rover Cooper alloys, Incenti flares (got all parts its just a matter of time to finish painting then assembly).
I'll put some photos up soon..
Colour will be red with silver roof and silver stripes
/Tim

Thanks, any ideas what flares to run, I suspect the car won't pass Regency with the 12*5 without flares
